Guild Wars 2 Demo: Charr Race Beginning

Awesome graphics for an MMO, and I very, very rarely say this! I'm very picky with graphics, and there are a few MMOs out there in development today, some of them with brilliant ideas and really rich worlds, but unfortunately very disappointing graphics and animations...frankly, I think the other MMOs' development teams should learn a thing or two from ArenaNet...this is very presentable, awesome stuff. Yes, I love eye candy while playing a game, not too shy to admit it, but I'm still a story junkie and enjoy good gameplay. Frankly, Guild Wars 1 never kept me interested more than a couple of days, while I played WoW almost religiously for years (not anymore)...and Guild Wars 2 seems to be the only truly promising MMO for me today. If I had to choose one MMO that I think I'll be buying, it would be GW2. Well done, ArenaNet; you guys have done an amazing job on so many levels, not just graphics and quality, but also building a cooperative community, minimizing grind, and so on. Respect!

This game looks absolutely stunning! The world design is intricate and richly atmospheric. Without a doubt, first day purchase for me.

Why isn't this out yet?

@Ridgeblader, I know there is no monthly fee but you still have to buy the game right? I assume it's not like End Of Nations.

its free to play, different take on MMO combat i doubt any other MMO is going to completely revamp their combat system in a patch to compete with this game. Plus did I mention its free to play?

i hate to say it but Mike is right, all the great features of this game won't be unique and groundbreaking in the game since it will be copied and implemented by the competing existing MMOs in their next expansions before the sun dawns to this game. It has to be released soon, and so that we play it already! :) They should release patches for later like, during the first year of release only human, norn and charr are playable. That is fine with us, It will take a long time playing different characters anyway. So the time other features are enabled, we already have high level toons and be excited to play others that are released. make sense right?

This game will be out in 2013 or 2014, after Diablo 3, Star Wars TOR, the next Wow expansion, the first Rift expansion and probably a few more mmos and dungeon crawlers we don't even know about yet. GW2 looks very promising and they are using some of their "mmo groundbreaking" features as their selling point to why this game will be so awesome. Problem is, when this game debuts, those features will not be groundbreaking anymore. Wow is already implementing the GW2 unique gear look feature in their next patch. We'll probably see alot more of GW2's cooler features applied to wow's next expansion, which will drop in early 2012. This game looks great, but when it comes out, will just be white noise. GG ArenaNet. Way to stay ahead of the ball.

do we know when this game will be released? 2012 or 2011? i thought it ment to be released @ 31/12/2011

I'm loving, have been following this since the original announcement. This game is the reason I bought a DX11 capable card. I owe it so much already. I can't wait to see each personal story through to the end and I hope we get a break down by one of the great theorycrafters as to how many total stories are picked through here. Not necessarily how many actual stories there since they will all vary in gameplay. The possibilities for expansions are endless!

@Cornholio_tp it's not going to be free to play. You buy the game but it doesn't have a monthly fee, so after you buy it, you play for free :)

@TacticaI what you described is what MMOs have turned into thanks to WoW...before WOW or these other popular korean MMOs, it was about more than that. What makes me happy is that they arnt just tacking on PVP like most other games...their pvp actually somewhat reminds me of DAoC.

I'm amazed that this epic looking game is going to be free to play. Can't wait to play it!

I'm not a fan of the MMO genre, but Guild Wars 2 is begging me to reconsider. A lot of the content I'm seeing in their videos doesn't look to me like the grinding bore fest I tend to scratch my head at and wonder why people dedicate so much of their time just get a really badass looking chestplate, and repeat the process all over again. , like I don't have to go search the internet for any class based strategy guides or scroll through endless databases for what drops what, I'm excited to see how this turns out.

They said closed beta this year, open beta next year... And open beta was suppose to be close to the final release. So lets just say... July 27th 2012-ish... its a friday. and the timing seems right... idk

This is an awesome vid, getting to see the Charr beginning quests is great. Can't wait for this game.

Spending so much on preorders.....SWTOR, GW2, ME3, Skyrim, BF3, Dark souls, HALO CE, Bioshock Infinite, GOW3, NHL 12, Sword of the stars: Lords of Winter, also bought NCAA 12..man I will be busy...good thing I am self employed. On this video the only thing I have a prob with is how the human models look very close to GW....not a big issue but I was hoping there would be more choice...unless they haven't shown that yet. Really likeing the Charr though.

why cant we have fat chunky characters, like little Thom.

I am a GW1 player, and I just cracked up when I heard "there's still hundreds of colors you can unlock in the game." The amazing things is because this is ANet, it may be true. The background story that actually affects gameplay is a nice touch. Some single player RPG have that, but in a MMO it could really help me connect with my race and faction (legion in this case). i will find out soon enough, but I wonder if the new skill unlock system means over the course of gameplay, I will be able to acquire all the skills instead of having to choose? Having to choose won't be bad either. One issue with this preview. Knowing that everyone in my warband except my best friend will die is not a little bit of spoiler! I understand the reasons for the revelation but still... It would have been an awesomely emotional moment.

I cannot believe that this looks so fantastic considering that it's an MMO. The competition couldn't hope to compete with the quality & accessibility that GW2 appears to offer.

@oflow I'm happy with "before 2013". I'm 99,9% sure it isn't going to be released this year, can't say the same thing about a release in 2012.

@oflow That was somewhat obvious for some time ago I think. Back at comiccon they announced ArenaNet will have the game demos at gamescon and etc later this year. They also announced that they have 1 prof not yet revealed, plus there will be a closed and open beta and AFTER all the fixes ArenaNET makes after they get their feedback a released date will be announced. When you think about all of that it somewhat makes sense that a release for this year would hardly be possible. Still ... nothing wrong in hoping for a miracle and we get our hands on the game this year :P

Also unfortunately I have a feeling this game is gonna get pushed back to 2012.

Paying to play a game does not a better community make. Just look at WoW and all it's ravenous trolls and sailor babies.

@fredwv Pretty much as bad as the community on this topic is; a bunch of nice people excited for the game, with a few trolls sprinkled on top.

@fredwv no worse than the average p2p community which always attracts the kiddies who think that because their daddy pays for the game they can swear, scream racial slurs, etc etc as much as they like... XBL is the perfect example of this...

What a boss for the first level! I think my favorite part about GW2 is that not only will it be a great MMO experience, it will be an all-around fantastic Game!

Just wanted to remind everyone to stop by the Guild Wars 2 forum page and check it out. Though there are a few bad apple's, we mostly have a knowledgeable and helpful community.

@hrothgar99 Good news! You DON'T need to pay a monthly fee for GW2 (or GW1). You pay you $50-60 for a copy, and are then free to play the game however much you want. There is an in-store shop that deal in things that have no impact on gameplay balance (character slots, name/gender change. etc.).

Def Impressive more and more when I see this game. Take your time on making this an epic game :).

@mingolo no but what I'm saying is the character model has a female body at around 2:40, the character has breasts....a woman's physique when the model is rotated...its so weird

guild wars is gonna be awesome ....this is how mmorpg should be like ...wow ..i mean this can see myself paying on a monthly basis to play ...impressive stuff
