Totally tubular straight forward action filled with colorful characters and plenty of fun.

User Rating: 8.3 | Greendog: The Beached Surfer Dude! GEN
Greendog is the story of a surfer dude, as the name implies, who wipes out from a killer wave only to wake up on the beach with a strange pendant around his neck. Its mystic powers keep him from surfing and makes all of the creatures around him go crazy...including people! His girlfriend Bambi, a bikini clad beach babe seems to be immune and informs Greendog that the only way to take the pendant off is to collect 6 Ancient Artifacts from around the nearby islands. So you set out with your frisbee in hand to release yourself from the curse.

Greendog is a pretty straight forward action game. You traverse 6 levels, each broken up into 2 sections with a bonus level after each one. You have the ability to jump, duck and toss your pink frisbee about to dispatch birds, crabs, fish, tiki statues, people and other assorted wildlife. Greendog can also collect special items for single time use. These include a homing frisbee, temporary invincibility, energy up and so on. As you get hit, your damage meter will increase until you are no more unless you collect soda pop cans to decrease your damage. All other food items are used for points.

Each level has three sections, the first dropping you in various locations such as the forest, the subway, underwater in an aquarium and such. The second area takes place inside of a temple which usually feature a small boss at the end, none of which are terribly difficult. Occasionally your trips through the temple are done on skateboard or rollerblades forcing you to jump over spikes and pits till you reach the end. This change in gameplay is rather enjoyable. Each level finishes with a sort of bonus stage where you jump on your peddle powered copter and fly from one island to the next collecting falling food for points while dodging dangerous creatures.

The most notable thing about Greendog is the graphics, which are bright and beautiful. Not exactly the most frames of character animation you'll find in a Genesis game, but the colors are vivid and the designs are delightfully exaggerated. The music is another plus in this game with a style that will make you feel right at home in the Jamaican landscape.

Greendog isn't the most difficult game out there and will take little more than an afternoon to finish, but will offer enough variety and excitement to keep you entertained the entire way.
