Blast some Balla fools in the best crime simulator on the ps2.

User Rating: 9.4 | Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas PS2
The year is 1991, your name is Carl Johnson (CJ), an old fashion 'gangsta' who has just arrived home to attend his mum's funeral. All is not too well in CJ's life as he has no respect from his fellow grove street homies, especially from his brother Sweet. Your rival gangs like the Ballas are taking Los Santos for themselves and it doesn't help when 2 of the most crooked cops in the force give you an unfriendly welcome in one of the most crime filled states in America. Welcome to San Andreas.

One of the first unique things about SA in terms of gameplay is the new RPG style stat leveling. Your main stats are muscle, fat, stamina, sex appeal and respect. When you first start out you have none of these and only with persistence in the game from working out in gyms to dressing up good and beating the missions will you start improving. These aren't the only stats to increase as there are stats for driving, riding and piloting and shooting and these will increase the more you do them. With driving as you level up the controls for cars will be easier to handle so that is definatley important.

The state of San Andreas would have to be 5 times bigger than Vice city and one of the most remarkable things about this is there is no load times while driving around. The only loading is missions and walking into the interiors of buildings. There are however problems with the size of the game. There are a ton of pop ins in the game and the frame rate can be a little unstable at times. There is a lot to do in SA like customizing CJ's appearance and going out with girlfriends, buying properties and swimming underwater for oysters etc.

The GTA engine used to power the graphics is definatley showing its age. I would argue that the graphics in SA have been turned down a little bit compared to Vice city due to the size of the game. The lighting effect for sunsets do look good but can be annoing also as they interfere with when I'm driving and I can't see anything infront of me. The water effects especially don't look half as attractive as that of Vice city either. One thing I do like about some of the visuals is driving at a real fast speed and seeing the blur effect.

Sound is where this game shines with a really good selection of songs from rock, alternative, gangsta rap and hip hop. And of course talk radio stations with humourous dialogue from returning character Lazlow and other talk show DJs are great to listen to. And SA would have to have some of the best voice actors to play the characters. Samuel L Jackson does the voice of Officer Tenpenny and Chris Penn as his crooked partner Palowski. James Woods even plays an important role as the voice of the mysterious Terreno character. There is a lot to do in San Andreas even after beating the game. The game can last you more than 40 hours of gameplay with a ton of missions to get through and a lot to collect such as 100 grafitti tags in Los Santos, 50 horse shoes aswell as oysters underwater. And the game's sheer size means you could just drive around the whole of SA and just listen to the radio stations. So if you are a fan of the previous GTA games than you will appreciate what San Andreas does for the series and how fun it is. So go out, buy this game and blast some gangsta fools.
