The Most Frustrating Edition to the Series…

User Rating: 6 | Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas PS2
After playing GTA3 and Vice City, this was a no-brainer to buy, but I wish I had thought it through more. I ended up forcing myself to play this game and go on tedious mission after tedious mission in a deluded effort to complete this game. I did end up finishing the game, but not after contributing more hours than I would have liked.

This game was repetitive to the point of absurdity and while you opened up new mission strands, they essentially were the same thing over-and-over again. The environment was decently detailed, but the vehicle options all seemed to have the same elements. The advantages I'd found in Vice City were lost in this version.

Adding insult to injury, this game also forced the game to feed and condition the protagonist, as well as style him and make him date in order to get more notoriety. In some ways, this game went down the wrong path from the get-to and careened down it as the game progressed. So many bad stereotypes were used and pushed forward, it surprised me how successful it was.

I also have to note, that while the music fit the era, there was only one radio station, of the ones available that I could even stomach. By the end of the game, I was completely sick of it and the game. I was so thrilled to just finish this game, it never was fun. To be fair, I had to give it an above average rating, because the franchise is what it is, and that can't be denied. But of the GTA games, this was the most disappointing and after playing it, I swore to never pick another one up again, and I haven't, unless you count Red Dead Redemption.
