Things improved and things screwed up make this game different but basically as good as the first.

It's kind of hard to write a review for this game without mentioning why perhaps I don't find it as great as it could have been. Early on there were two ideas that were presented as parts of this game, Story Mode and Token System. The Story Mode was an actual adventure with a story that had you doing special missions and fighting off foes with a purpose and the token system allowed you to somewhat change monsters to make the online fights a bit less cut and dry. With that out of the way, the actual game. The game is good, the environments are larger and the monsters more detailed plus a lot of them got another once over move wise from the first game giving them more attacks. The combat is entertaining and no monster really trumps another monster, though there are some balance issues which make no sense for having ever existed, such as Megalons ridiculous ability to be healed by nuclear damage, mainly Godzilla's Beam attack. That basically removes an entire form of attack when in a battle with Megalon when it isn’t close to how the monster actually responded to the beam in the movies. The cities are destructible like before, bigger and a bit more detailed, but overall look pretty much the same and function about the same with the aside of being able to use some objects as melee weapons. Also the ability to catch hurled objects makes for some pretty entertaining moments. None of the monsters this time around are just straight Model Swaps this time, even the different Godzilla vary, albeit slightly. The two Mecha-Godzillas are considerably different now as well. As for new monsters, there really isn't a whole lot more you could ask for as far as the roster goes now, a few here and there like Varan and Titanosaurous would have been nice, but over all the selection is bordering on perfection with all the best and favorites represented. Overall the game is about as good as the last one was and just like the last one playing it multiplayer is the way to really enjoy it, thankfully it has online play for that, however if you don't have live it may leave you a bit under whelmed. Even with live the chance of finding a game is low, so that can also be frustrating. I hope the third game turns out much like Budokai 3 did. If you look at the games next to one another they match up well in progression. Godzilla: DAMM - Budokai 1: Surprisingly good given the history of the games and the world of which they were trying to make a game in. Godzilla: STE - Budokai 2: General rushed feeling and underwhelming leaving a lot to be desired. Budokai 3: Close to perfection as far as DBZ games go, capturing the speed, look, and flashiness of the combat. So hopefully Godzilla 3 will work out like Budokai 3 did, after all they are under the control of the same company. Maybe it is just one big development process the way they work and they release chunks of it along the way. Anyhow, Godzilla Save the Earth is good if you have people to play it with, and even better if you already have a love for Godzilla.
