Easily one of the greatest shooters . . . ever

I came into Gears of War with mixed emotions. Because I got it much later than it was released, I had heard so much about how awesome it was. Usually that means I usually expect too much and them I am disappointed. Not so with GOW. It was so much more than what I was expecting. I get a bit tired of the shooters where you are basically indestructible, and while GOW is far from realistic, it is very refreshing to play a game that does force you to use elements that would be present in a real gunfight (i.e. cover). The cover system in GOW is so well integrated and smooth that with one push of a button you can duck behind just about anything that might offer a little bit of protection. The game is quite graphic and the language is quite poor, but given the context and nature of the game those elements seem to be a necessary evil. Additionally, what the game lacks in plot lines (I'm a big fan of games with good plot), the game does a wonderful job of making you feel how dire and immediate your circumstances are. It's definitely enough to keep you spending way too many hours at a time playing a game. Plus, GOW is a great game to come back to and play again and again, especially with a buddy (which is a huge help on the tougher difficulty levels). All in all, a great game and must have for any shooter fan.
