Great game, but the mulitplayer is a major let down.

The campaign in this game is where all the fun is at. Everything right down to the background music is just amazing. The context sensitive A button is what this game is all about. Ducking behind cover, running to cover, diving, and popping out to take off some shots never gets tiring. I can't say enough about how great the controls are, although the 3rd person view can feel slightly clunky at times it is necessary for the style of the game. Rarely the context button will do something you did not intend, and result in a death.

What sucks about this game is the crappy multiplayer. The maps are designed just great, but it all comes down to the same thing..... who picked up the big weapons first. You start each round with the shotgun, and the machine gun, but are toast unless you pick up something else. These weapons are grossly underpowered in multiplayer. It is VERY common that you unload an entire clip into an enemy and he gets up on your face to tag you with a grenade then runs away before you can finish him off. The shotgun is absolutely useless unless you are within arms length, which is pointless if the other guy tags you with a grenade from farther away, or manages to get the chainsaw up.

The bow-shot or whatever it is called, is like the rocket launcher of the Halo games. Whoever gets it is probably going to dominate the round. If it ever connects on the target, the target is toast no matter what. Not to mention the sniper rifle is also a one shot kill every time. Trying to duck and cover in multiplayer just means you are going to get snuck up on from behind and die. And I haven't even mentioned any of the glitches with the game yet. During the course of an hour today I only managed to get into 2 games that I was not instantly disconnected from. I have cable internet, that has never had any lag issues what-so-ever. When a round is over, instead of being put back into the lobby for game matching, you get put all the way back to the main menu and have to select Versus -> Xbox Live -> Quick/Custom Match -> Specify Match type -> Select game. This happens after EACH and every game. And when you get disconnected from a game right after joining, it again kicks you back to the first menu so you get to do it all over again. You actually spend more time navigating through the menus that you do getting kicked out of a game. Very stupid and frustrating.

I guess it's time to sitdown and wait for Lost Planet to attempt and bring the truly great multiplayer to the 360 because Gears of War just failed to bring it.
