Gears of War has brought a new world to gamers that pulls one into the story as it unfolds. The world is in conflict with an enemy called the locusts, mutant like creatures of all sizes. The campaign was wonderfully done. The AI reacts to your movements on higher difficulties, the graphics are beautiful as is the lighting, and the boss fight with the giant spider locust (I can’t recall the name of the monster) was one of my favorite fights in all the games I played.
Multiplayer is easy enough for the casual gamer and complex enough for the “hardcore” gamer. Watching another player’s head explode down the barrel of your sniper rifle is quite a sight. The achievements for multiplayer are fun, 100 head shots, 100 kills with various weapons allowing for most players to have to switch it up to get all of the achievements. The addition of the new maps and annex, along with achievements based on the new maps and annex, gave gamers more maps to explore and hours more gameplay trying to unlock those achievements.
In short, I think that Gears of War, which has hinted at it being a trilogy, will be the next “big” franchise after the “Halo Fever” of Halo 3 passes. I can’t wait to see what awaits us in Gears of War 2.
