User Rating: 9.7 | Gears of War X360
Gears of War is easily one of the, if not the most anticipated games ever for the Microsoft Xbox 360. The game had so much hype surrounding it; many people had their doubts about the game. I however was not one of them. I knew right from the start that this game would be amazing. I even thought it might revolutionize gaming as we know it. Well, it did not do that. But it took a formula that we had already seen in the past, and made it about 30 times better than what it had ever been before. Ladies and gentlemen, this is my review of Gears of War.

So the gameplay in this game is very similar to the game Kill Switch. But Way better. In Gears of War if you are not behind an object such as a wall or a car you could be only seconds away from death. So basically you are behind an object for cover most of the time you are in battle. Some of the weapons are amazing in this game. There is a weapon in the game called the hammer of dawn. And with this weapon, you usually use it to take down much larger and bigger enemies than you could take down with your standard Assault Rifle or Shotgun. So what you do with this weapon is you have to be outside at all time. You point it at the enemy object, and a beam of light comes down from the sky crashing down on your enemies. Is it awesome? Yes. Do you get to use it very often? No. You only get to use the Hammer of Dawn a few times in the entire game. But the parts that you actually get to use it are oh so satisfying.

Also one of the coolest things about Gears of War is that you have a chainsaw attached to your assault rifle. You use this chainsaw usually for foes that don’t have a gun or weapon. And when you use it, my god is it satisfying. It may be the single best use of a chainsaw in a game ever. Period. All the blood and gore that comes out of the enemy is just so freakin' AWESOME! The cool thing about it is that you can use it pretty much anytime you want. Unless of course you don’t have the assault rifle.

Another amazing aspect of the gameplay is the multiplayer. There are the occasional match types like Death match, Team Death match, and capture the flag. There are also of course a few other multiplayer modes, but I don’t know all of them. And the Xbox live gets even better. I myself don’t have Xbox Live, but I’ve played Gears of War on Xbox Live at one of my friend’s houses, and it is awesome. I didn't want to leave! The multi-player may be as good, if not better than the already amazing single player.

The only real downside about the gameplay for Gears of War is the fact that the story mode can be beaten in about 8 hours. But when you beat a game's story line and you want to play it again, it must be good.

Overall the gameplay in Gears of War is amazing. Like I said earlier, the only downside is that the game is too short. But when you want to play it again when you've already beat it, who really cares? The gameplay easily gets a perfect, Ten out of Ten.

The Graphics in Gears of War are easily put the best in a game ever. I’m serious when I say this. I have never seen a game with as good graphics as Gears of War. Don’t argue with me. When I first was playing this my mom walked out of her room and said "What are you watching?" I said it was a game and she was amazed. The face detail on basically everything is amazing. The lighting effects are the best every right up there with Oblivion and Doom 3. In the graphics department it will be hard for the PS3 too match these graphics.

You will be hard pressed to find one bug or glitch in the wall, the weapons, armor, ect. The Graphics are simply put flawless in Gears of War. On to the detail of the characters. It is amazing. I mean you play these huge muscle built freaks basically, and it really shows. The muscle definition in the game is unmatched. The people honestly look as real as you are going to get when it comes to the Xbox 360. And that is really saying a lot.

Overall the graphics can be called nothing less than flawless. The detail on everything is simply unmatched. You will not find any game that has better graphics than this ever. This game simply has the best graphics I have ever seen. The graphics easily get a perfect Ten out of Ten. No question.

On too the sound. The sound too, is amazing. My god. The explosions sound so real. I’m serious they do. The Gunshots also, sound about as real as they do in real life. Just the sounds of the weapons you use sound so satisfying. Heck, just the sound of the Chainsaw alone is awesome, even if you don’t hit/hurt anything. The voice over in Gears of War are also awesome and amazing. The voice over are sometimes funny. And I mean that in a very good way. The voice over are awesome. Not much more to talk about with the sound.

Well overall the sound in Gears of War is much like every other aspect of the game: Amazing, The game has right on queue gunshots, and realistic sounding ones at that. The explosions sound just about as real as your going to get. Let’s not forget that Gears of War has amazing, awesome voice over. Darn. It looks like Gears of War's sound is just like the gameplay and the graphics: flawless. The sound gets a perfect Ten out of Ten.

I don’t know of an easier way too put it. Gears of War is one of the best shooters to come out in many years. Gears of War has amazing gameplay. With an amazing story line and equally amazing multiplayer. It has the best graphics in a game ever in my opinion. The detail and the lighting in the graphics are all just amazing. The sound is just the same. Perfect. The sound has the amazing gun effects and the even more amazing effects of the explosions you will hear in the game. Overall, Gears of War is the killer app that just about every owner of the Xbox 360 has been waiting for. This game may not be flawless, but it is damn close. Gears of War is quite possibly the best game of the year, and the best shooter in many years. If you own a Xbox 360, you owe it too yourself to pick up Gears of War. It is an amazing technical achievement in gaming today.
