This is not that bad of a game, a nice mix of RPG/Adventure makes a nice change from the ordinary...

User Rating: 7.7 | Gauntlet Legends (Classics) PS
First off, I am rather surprised that Gamespot gave such a low review for this game. I rather enjoyed this game when it first came out. The only thing is putting this game as an ARCADE was a bad idea, since some RPG elements are involved. This game is best played as a CONSOLE, not ARCADE. If anything, that's the only real mistake for this game.

GRAPHICS
=========
Graphics are not the greatest, but there are much worse games that have much worse graphics than this game. The stages, characters, monsters, and bosses, all look pixxelated, but it's not really easy to make small 3D characters look great when you are making them 3D. But the animation is very smooth and that alone helps make this game really enjoyable to watch and play at the same time.

CONTROL
=========
This is where the real factor comes into play. The control is pretty straight forward. Use the controller to control your character and aim your shots at monsters, fire your shots with one button, use your special attack with another button, and when you want something, like keys or food, you just walk up to it and touch it. Nothing can be more simple than that. The only thing is you may need to get used to some new elements introduced in the game since the old Gauntlet days is that you can pickup or buy special attacks, such as the Thunder Hammer, Fire Breath, Thunder Shield, and some others. You can even switch from one special to another so you don't waiste them. Plus, if you have a Multi-tap, you can have friends come along for the adventure and fight enemies faster. Plus, some areas of the game sorta require a helping hand and having 2 players sorta helps you get to where you are going much better.

OVERALL
========
I think many RPGers out there will really enjoy this game. It's a bit of an escape from the ordinary compaired to things like turn based attacks or strategy style combat. Because it's true combat, that helps add to the element of play. I think you might be surprised at how this game really plays, just give it a try and I bet you will enjoy it. If there is anything bad to say about this game, it's that the game overall is too short and ends too quickly, you will see what I mean when you play it.
