Airborne: Liberation announced

Interplay Entertainment and BattleBorne Entertainment have today announced that they're collaborating on the development and distribution of a third-person action game named Airborne: Liberation. Inspired by World War II, the game will see players assuming the role of a private dropped into Normandy in the predawn hours of the D-Day invasion. Players will be able to choose to fight as a member of the 101st "Screaming Eagles" Division, the 82nd Airborne, or the British Red Devils.

"We're really excited about Airborne: Liberation and look forward to combining efforts with BattleBorne to bring this history-based gameplay experience to consumers," said Jim Molitor, vice president of product development for Interplay.

The WWII-inspired campaign will see players participating not only in the D-Day invasion, but also in other key battles, including Operation Market Garden, the siege of Bastogne, and the final assault on Hitler's Germany. The game will feature elements of individual and squad-based gameplay, and the game's cooperative play support will allow two players on a single screen to play through the entire game together.

Airborne: Liberation is currently scheduled for release on June 6 next year--the 60th anniversary of D-Day. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
