Aero Star Review

Aero Star adds a slightly new skew to the top-down blaster concept.

For a shooter to work well, it must be both original and addictive. Well, Aero Star adds a slightly new skew to the top-down blaster concept (your ship can jump up in the sky for small periods, although this shuts down your blasters and leaves you vulnerable), but the rest of the cart is pretty tedious. Drab graphics slowly scroll their way down the screen as you collect power ups and face the tough-as-kittens bosses, and after a few levels of this, you'll be eager to find something more interesting to do like... well, anything really.

Power-up pods occasionally float their way onto the screen, and shooting them before collecting them changes what the pods do. B turns your Aero Star fighter into a missile-spewing vehicle of death, V spreads your fire over the screen, S gives you the amazing ability to fire from the sides as well as the top, O gives you orbital drones on your side, and L gives you lasers. Now, you can amaze your friends with your in-depth Aero Star knowledge.
