User Rating: 4.8 | Galleon XBOX
Galleon is a one player Fantasy Adventure game on the X box only. The game was very similar to what I thought it would be as well as to all of the hype that came with it. Unfortunately there were some major upsets as well. I would rate the character, Captain Ramma, as a good character who has a nice strength, such as his ability to fall from a great distance without getting hurt. However he also has a major flaw in his design where any girl that he meets almost instantly wants to go to bed with him. The story line is an awesome story. You are chasing Jabezz the villain of the game who murdered Faith’s father and has attempted to kill you several times throughout the game. Galleon’s biggest strength is the story line, it keeps you coming back for more and wondering what is going to happen next. The biggest weakness in Galleon is the camera control. When you can’t move when you are trying to look up or down in the middle of a fight it can get very annoying. I believe that the best headline on the back of the box is the Mystery. “Hours of exploration and challenge unravel masterful storytelling with unforgettable characters.” The reason I believe that is the best is because of the traps you encounter as well as how well the traps tie into the story line. The changes that I would make would be towards the menu list that you can access while in game play, you never use your D-pad and it would make more sense to use it than the joystick that you are using to walk/direct you camera with. Also, I would change some of the graphics because Ramma’s face is drawn up and he looks like a bunch of triangles put together. Then, I would change the camera controls so that you could look up and down with ease. Finally, I would change the fight sequence so that the bad guys that are the same have more similar hit points, because you can hit one with a hit and he will die with the one hit, but you can fight the same bad guy for five minutes using the exact same hit. The elements of the game that are worth remembering are the story line, as well as some of the trap ideas, other than that it should all be scrapped and brought back to the drawing board. The controls of the game are very simple, in fact a box pops up in almost every level teaching you how to accomplish the feat you are trying to do. The graphics, what can I say? The backdrops and some of the bad guys were drawn well, other than that it looked like the artist was drawing with triangles. The audio of the game was good, there was no lapse when the characters talked, the music didn’t put you to sleep but when you were fighting the clang of the weapon against air got old. The user interface over all just plain sucked. The menus were impossible to use especially when you were being attacked. They would have been better if you could use different buttons. The controls were good other than having a box pop up every so often to tell you what to do. The camera control hurt the game play a lot because of the way you had to control the cameras you couldn’t walk and look up at the same time. I would recommend the game to others that I don’t like. If they made a Galleon two I would recommend renting it first to see if they fixed the problems that are in Galleon. Overall I believe that Galleon could have been better if the game had been designed with better camera control, when you want to look up or down you cannot move and you have to go into a screen that makes you lock onto a target and when you lock onto a target it makes your camera unable to turn until you break the lock or arrive at your target destination.
