The future of law inforcement....the X-1 Alpha

I played this game when it came out on the humble psone back in '98. Now thanks to the magic of the ps3 and its PS Network it is now available as a purchase. Well I got the game and wasn't dissappointed at all.

The game itself takes place in the future and the LAPD has commissioned its new vehicle to dispence justice. The x-1 Alpha is a two in one mech/hovertank. It transforms at the touch of a button from either mode. The mech is the main battle mode while the hovertank mode can fire just as good it tends to slide a bit when you are chasing someone, so I found the best thing to do was use the hover mode to traverse terrain quick and then transform into the mech and really let it out. Also the hover mode can't go up inclines. The other great thing is if you land in water or fall off a wall and land in water the mech auto transforms into hover mode.

Graphics are old compared to todays standards as it is a psone DLC, but the cutscenes and voice over's are very good. But for the time of the psone the graphics are very good.

Sound is also done very well, the in mission briefings and the like are also very good. Most of the sound/voices of when you take out someone are the same, but that is only due to the limitations set by the hardware then. 8/10

Gameplay/story. This is where the game shines, even though each level looks small, you will find yourself traversing terrain either by a lift or driving over water so the levels are expanded due to how you have to get from point A to B or sometimes C.

It should also be noted that sometimes the sound will glitch out for some odd reason after you have started a mission. Usually quiting the game and then starting the game up again fixes this. Some may not see that as an issue, but when you're getting shot at you won't hear it and can find the x-1 going up in smoke.

The game is also very similar to the strike series of games also made by EA. In fact the original title for this was Future strike. EA then changed and evolved the game into what it is.

The game was also one of the first to use multiplay so well, co-op through the whole game and also versus.
