Futurama is a poorly put together game that only offers moments of nostalgia to avid fans of the show. The Gameplay featured in Futurama the game is atrocious. Your control over your character’s running ability is decent, but that’s pretty much it. Jumping puzzles suck and are hard to execute and have to be done very meticulously or your jump will set off the wrong square, even if you don’t touch it. Also on button pressing puzzles you have to make damn sure you’re exactly on the right one or it’ll press the wrong button on either side of you. The fighting engine is unbelievably bad looking. And lastly the camera is awful, which adds to you occasionally trying to jump from platform to platform and sometimes you have to do it blind because the camera is giving you a huge close up of a tree branch. The camera control is very limited. Sometimes you can move it and usually not in much of a different angle, unless you’re in a huge open area. The graphics are cell shaded, which look a little unusual but seem to work well enough. The environments are probably the best things about the graphics. They look decent and do give you the feel of the Futurama universe. Now the character models, which are being attempted in 3D, whereas the show is mostly in 2D, the 3D models did not come out too well. You’ll notice Leela’s neck is very thin most of the time and looks dreadful. Some characters look better like Bender, but particularly in cut scenes they all look a bit off. The Sound in the game is awesome. The music, which can at times seem a little monotonous but is pretty good, and a decent variety considering the length of the game. The voice acting is very good with the exception of a few occasional bad in game one-liners. They got the writers from the show to write the game and the actors who do the voices of all the characters in the game and they do a great job. As I mentioned earlier this game is exceptionally short. I beat the game in less than seven hours. The game doesn’t warrant a replay either. So, you’re in for a short gaming experience and when you look at it a game this poorly thrown together it isn’t something you want to play for long periods of time. The game does have a good enough story to it and the cut scenes are pretty good and are up to par with a Futurama episode. Plus you can unlock all the cut scenes and they are easy to access for future enjoyment. The game does have a lot of good and true references to the show and that makes the game a bit more enjoyable for hardcore fans of the series. Overall it is a bad game that I can’t really see myself recommending to someone. But, with Futurama being taken off the air (at least new episodes) you may feel starved for Futurama and if you really want to get some more content of your favorite show then the game offers pretty much a new episode for you in cut scenes and unplayable Gameplay.
