Frogger 2 is an enjoyable experience while it lasts.

Frogger 2 for the Gameboy Color is much more improved then the original Frogger. Not for new moves or controls because the game controls the same and there are no new moves that you can do. However, there is a lot more levels and much more variety to be found in the levels then the original Frogger. Sadly, it still does not have as many levels as a Gameboy Color game should have.

You use the D-pad to move Frogger. Up, down, left an right. You can't move him diagonally in any direction nor can he jump or attack so the game relies on perfect timing. For example, you want to know exactly when to cross the road so you down get ran over and you have to be precise to cross from a platform to a moving platform. Sometimes this game can get some frustrating moments in there when you have to cross areas and it does not show the ground beneath you. For these moments, you watch a little demo of how you're supposed to cross and then you cross yourself.

There are no boss battles in Frogger 2, however there is a fair share of enemies that you will encounter throughout the game. Due to the fact that you cannot attack these enemies, the best thing to do is to simply dodge them and move on. There are also plenty of obstacles that can crush you like cars, trucks and moving barrels. There is something like that in nearly every level.

Gamespot said that the graphics and sound in Frogger 2 were equivilant to NES standards. While the graphics and sound are not even close to perfection, I do disagree with what they said. It looks like a standard Gameboy Color game to me, better than some other games that I have seen on the handheld and it looks colorful. There isn't much detail but the graphics certainly aren't terrible. As for the sound, the sound effects sound about NES quality but the music sounds more clear, maybe Super Nintendo quality. The music is pretty good also.

The game is fairly short and on the easy side despite a few frustrating and cheap moments throughout the game. The levels are timed and you are also encouraged to collect diamonds as you go through the levels too. A lot of times it is easier to learn the course of the level and then if you die just remember what you did wrong last time and do it right the next time. So apart from that, the game is beatable in a few hours. It is not too hard for anyone.

If you were a fan of the original Frogger, there is a lot to like here because overall, it's a better title. I can't suggest this to you if you're not because by 2006 standards it's a very outdated game with the Nintendo DS already out and it won't seem very fun to you.
