The legendary Tim Curry provides chills and thrills...

User Rating: 8 | Frankenstein: Through the Eyes of the Monster PC
Well, I've played this game 4 or 5 times now to date. And, I plan on playing it again, after I replay Sanitarium. As a "point and click" fan, it's hard to find the right kind of game that really keeps you glued to the screen for over 3 hours. For as well all know, the out of date point and click adventure games are usually boring and short with a story that couldn't even keep a 10 year old occupied.

Finding this gem in the bargain bin for $10 (Now selling for as low as 1cent), a two pack with another game called, Mummy: Tomb of the Pharaoh, and being a horror fan through and through, I knew I had to try out this game.

The graphics are definitely outdated, combining both live action and computer generated images really made this game quite unique, even though many have tried and continuously failed. The music and SFX immerse you into the story as you explore.

Instead of being Dr. Frankenstein, you are his monster! And as you go throughout the game, you learn the who, what, where and why. Turns out, you were wrongly accused, convicted and hung for your own daughter, Gabrielle's murder. Franky then found your body and brought you back to life with not all body parts intact, mind you. While you run about, you uncover a disturbing story using notes, letters and documents strewn about the castle. Along the way, be sure to stop and sniff the roses. There are plenty of things to interact with such as a brain analyzer. Apparently, the Doc had many other murder victims and decided to make an analyzer of the human brain. A poke of the brain here, a poke of the brain there and out spews their last thoughts and words before their untimely demise.

In some cases, you yourself can be killed if not quick enough or if you don't have the proper item to save you, but saving the game is allowed anywhere, which is quite convenient. As all good games go, mazes are sure to be, correct? Yup. This game has about 5 or 6 hard mazes that challenge even the most geeky. From a tough hedge maze to an equally, perhaps even more so tough mine maze.

But, the highlight of the game is all the fun little and big puzzles that really irk you, if you don't understand the story. Although, if you don't understand the story, then you shouldn't be playing, right?

All that aside, Frankenstein boasts a Gothic charm along with chills and thrills of exploring a seemingly vacant castle. (Other than you and the doc of course.) Running from henchmen, collecting items, reading documents and saving your life from a madman. Even though the graphics may turn you off, please give this game a try. If you are into anything macabre, or have very little spending money and in need of a good thrill, this is for you!
