meh i'll answer the topic title question. i've never had to take it back. warranty covers it anyways as long as you don't decide you're Mr Fix-It n try to DIY the stuff to health fi it breaks.
Mine was a launch.. recently had to send it in... hasnt hitched once since I got it back. All 360s have 1 yr warranty.. and its $29 to upgrade another year, which you can upgrade anytime until your warranty expires. I upgraded my warranty 2 months before my one year warranty went out.
my friend has had to send his in twice already. The first time a microsoft rep said he would get a new replacement but when it broke a second time and he called up microsoft. they said they never replaced the original and it would cost 100 bucks to fix.
