According to a post on the Facebook page Official Xbox Germany, with the next dashboard update for Xbox 360 you can have up to 1000 friends on Xbox Live. The old limit of "only" 100 contacts, would in fact be increased tenfold. Translated, the post (there is now removed) reads something like this:

"Increase the limit of 100 friends on Xbox Live is a desire that many people for some time. With the update, you can have up to 1000 friends on the list. How many friends do you have? Not enough? Then look for them in the "Friends" "

The dashboard update will arrive on 4 November. Expect confirmation or denial for this new expanded friends list.

Update: The news was officially denied by Major Nelson.

Ultimately, you only end up playing with a handful of friends. I pretty much maxed out my contacts but I could sure use a lot of editing - removing people I no longer game with or communicate with. Still nice though for the extremely popular XBL member.

I've yet to understand why people feel like they need to have an overwhelming amount of "friends". The same thing can be said for social networking sites. I only have two friends on both Xbox live and Facebook and have no desire for more. It just seems that they're wasting time on this feature when the man power could be spent on something far more productive.

That's your opinion because you don't utilize it fully. There are plenty of people who have lots of friends on XBL and it's just another way to keep in touch.

Why do you really need 1000 friends? I only got like 30-40 friends on my friendslist right now, and half of them are my real life friends, or the very nice Xbox live players that I like. Whats the point in this anyways? It's not like Im going to accept your friend request, unless I met you here on Gamespot or Xbox.com, lol.

i think a gamespot mod posted a topic on this a few days ago, and i think the general reaction was 'overkill' who the hell has 1000 people they want to game with? parties hold a maximum of 8 people and most gametypes come in 4-8 players. 1000 is ludicrous

yeah people need to give up on hoping that the list will be incresed. This isnt facebook , having 1000 friends would reap havock on your internet connection, your xbox and just overall live. Just imagine if 100 people hopped online at once and all game details that would have to be loaded for the FL. It just wouldnt work.
