I like Mass Effect way better than Bioshock. Mass Effect has way more replay value. Bioshock started out awesome, but quickly got repetitive and boring for me.
Mass effect's a keeper, Bioshock's a rental. They're both great games, but there's no point going through bioshock more than once as it's driven so much by the story, and the little sister dilema doesn't change it too much (Except the, quite bad, ending) M.E. you could go through 2, 3 times. Hec, on my third time through i havent finished in 23 hours (mind you i'm level 56)

Bioshock deffinitly has replay value and is not repeditive! They are both really good games but I would pick Bioshock!
This really isnt an easy choice as you might think because these are two really great games and they both are from one genre of games taking aspects of the other with them:
Bioshock is a shooter with RPG elements
Mass effect is an RPG with shooting elements
If I had to choose one game to go with I would go with Bioshock cause it's the kind of game that you can really appreciate with one play through, unlike ME. Especially since you said that your going to be renting one of them you will really want to go with BS. In order for you to REALLY like ME and get into it your going to need multiple playthroughs on different settings with a different class with different teammatesm etc. The achievements for ME are also VERY demanding and time consuming, but if you have the time and patience they are very worthwhile. BS had fun achievements that I got in one playthrough.
Well since youre only renting then I guess it doesnt really matter cause you can then just rent the other one next week. However if youre looking to buy then go with Mass Effect. Anyone that says Bioshock has loads of reply is a rabid fanboy and should be ignored.
I had mass effect and have bioshock, mass effect is boring and hard while bioshock might be boring at the beggining but when you play more it's really fun

I have both games and Mass Effect is much better. Mass Effect is one of my favorite games ever as it keeps you interested from beggining to end with the non-stop action and excitment, as for BioShock it is really cool looking and the 50's style underwater city is nice to look at and to explore but that is the extent of it as otherwise it is really boring and the gameplay unexciting and repetitive.

If I had to choose one and only one of these - Mass Effect has the slight edge for me. Bioshock is a dark and brooding shooter and Mass Effect is a SciFi epic RPG.

Actually you should rent it, so you can beat it in less than 8 hours, realize theres nothing more to the game, take it back the next day and spend the next week on a game where you actually get your money's worth.
i've played mass effect for the xbox 360 i didn't really like it.the first few missions r cool but it's not dat good.I would rather get bioshock.It's way better. Trust me

I own Mass Effect and i've beaten Bio. Their both gr8 but if i had 2 choose 1 i would go w/ Bio b/c u can just beat it once and b done w/ it wich is good 4 a rental. Mass Effect is rly long and u will want 2 beat it more than once (although my disk broke b4 i could finish my 2nd time through, or was it 3rd?)
