Xbox360 - GTA4 (not so much a good story as good dialogue and interesting characters)
Overall - MGS4

I couldn't tell you, Mass Effect, Bioshock, MGS, Star Wars: Force Unleashed, it really depends on my mood.
GTA San Andreas has a very impressive story.
I takes place during the LAriots, its protagonist is a black man, which has to be a first for a video game. It centers around his family's life after their mother was killed and there is a large developing story about the main characters life, the gang he is in and eventually how all of this lead to his mother's death.
And great voice acting to boot.
This is very off-topic, but Majora's Mask had an excellent story.Halo: Combat evolved, Mass effect, morrowind. I heard the KOTOR series had good stroies too.

Metal Gear Solid series without a doubt, but since this is a Xbox 360 forum, it's got to be Mass Effect.

What he said. MGS4 is the king of storytelling, but Mass Effect and Bioshock do an excellent job.
Bioshock and Mass Effect probably have the two best stories, but I give the advantage to Mass Effect since it is an RPG and more story driven. You have more control over your actions and the outcome. Also, it was done by Bioware, who are basically the best story tellers in the gaming industry.
Honorable mention- Star Wars Force Unleashed. As a Star Wars fan I loved the story. If it was a little more fleshed out and put into a movie, it would put Episodes I and II to shame.
you thought the force on-a-leash had a good story :? ? see something new every day.....Bioshock and Mass Effect probably have the two best stories, but I give the advantage to Mass Effect since it is an RPG and more story driven. I would second the vote for Star Wars:TFU. I thought the story was a great bridge in between Episodes III and IV.
Can't believe that I'm the first to say The Darkness. Great story and a steal for around $20 regardless of the multi-player, which I never played.
Thanks for the back up SW:FU. I don't expect non-Star Wars fans to appreciate it, but SPOILERS...... the origin of the Rebel Alliance and Darth Vader's and in it was really cool. Like I said, I wish they would make it a live action movie.I would second the vote for Star Wars:TFU. I thought the story was a great bridge in between Episodes III and IV.
