I have an hdtv monitor and right now I am using the component cables. My monitor has a VGA input. Are VGA cables hd? Is it worth getting them?

I got the vga cabel in hope that it would make the picture even better then it is with component. But i was very dissapointed with the result. The colors got washed out and the overall picture got worse so i changed back to component and have stayed that way since. i have heard that M$ is going to relise an update that will fix some of the problems with vga. Maybe then i will try again and see if they fixed the problems..

Yes, the 360's VGA cable is HD. However, it appears to be half as bright as component. I've been told the 360's VGA cable up-converts the resolution when playing DVDs, that's why I bought it. But I don't think the difference is worth the loss in brightness.

Yes it is worth it and it is better than component if you know how to properly calibrate the tv.  By brightness i think he meant the depths of the colors and not brightness in general

Actually I meant both, the depth of the colours as well as the general brightness is substantially weaker.

Me and my roommates have seen a big difference between component and VGA.  For my TV which is a 32" Westinghouse with built in DVD player the VGA looks 10X or 100X better than Component.  The pictuer is brighter and much clearer.

I also have a Westinghouse tv so maybe it will look better with VGA cables.
