Just curious.  And I don't really want to turn this into another "this is my setup" thread, but brief descriptions of setups and how/why you got your current setup are ok.  I'm a yes, playing on a 32in olevia LCD.

There probably wont EVER be any real need for it. It is VERY difficult to even see a difference between 1080p and 1080i/720p. And then you'll need a set at least 55in in size just to see that miniscule difference. Now if you want to upgrade, I'd do it to get a better tv than your westinghouse, but I wouldn't do it solely for 1080p support.

I play through VGA  on a 19" TFT widescreen montior at 1360x768. I suppose that counts as HD. Funnily enough I have played through component on a 50" Sony Bravia screen and the picture in my eyes was not as crisp and the colours lacked deepness (TFT screen black levels beat it hands down). Is it the component lead or just a smaller screen looks better for games or anything like that??

I think for a quick and inexpensive HD solution, using the VGA cable with your monitor is great. Before I purchased an HDTV, I used my 19" LCD monitor, and my gaming experience was just as awesome. Its just as good really, just with a smaller picture. For those who are strapped for cash, you can finance your TV. When I purchased my 26" Samsung it was about $1,000. Places like Tweeter and even Best Buy have financing plans where you can open a card and get 12 months of interest free financing. So as long as you pay it off within a year, you're good. That's the way to go, so you can have your HDTV up front, but pay for it little by little over the course of a year.

Can you actually read the text in games if you upgrade to a 27 inch 720p television?

Its not so much the picture quality that concerns me, its being able to read that text.

You can, its just painful.

I was playing in HD and then I went home and played on my poor-ass Standard Definition TV and all I could say was "WOW THIS LOOKS LIKE ****".

Meh, I'll get a 60+inch 1080p tv just to have the best. I just want those few extra pixels to notice a slight movement around a wall or anything like that so I can get better headshots. 1080p + digital surround sound = happy hunting.

I play on a 42" Samsung 1080i Plamsa, it has an awesome picture and was the greatest purchase I made last year.  What really made this HDTV special is that it came with a $300 off coupon on a Prem. Xbox 360.  I was looking to get just the tv and ended up getting an Xbox 360 as well for just $100.

Unless your going above 50 inches dont waste your time or money on 1080p. Put that extra money on software. Youll thank me later.

I think HD is the only way to play.  My gf's parents have a 55 inch with kickin surround sound.  I get spoiled when I play over there.
