Next Console "Years Away," Says Microsoft U.K. Boss

I think the Xbox 360 has a few more legs to stand on before we see the next Xbox. I'm not sure how much longer it can last on DVD9. I guess we'll see once developers start needing more space. I can say this generation is going to be here for a long time.

DVD's are perfectly fine. The systems today cannot handle textures of higher resolutions so there is no point in going above 9Gb. The only thing that would fill any extra space would be uncompressed video which is 100% useless when the exact same video can be viewed in a great quailty on the DVD9 with slight compression. Even the biggest PC games have an install of around 12Gb and graphically they destroy anything on a console since the PC can handle the higher resolution.

I'm happy with the way things are going with the 360 i don't need a new console for at least another 5 or 6 years.

New engines are still being developed for the consoles so It has a lot of life left. Reach, COD and Gears will still be popular for the next 3 years

i just bought a 250 gig 360...im satisfied for the next 2-3 years

Thats good to hear, since I'm buying a new 360 slim tomorrow. I have not had a 360 for over a year now

I guess it's good news. I think it's still has a good five years left remaining. Announcing the next gen console somewhere around next year will be too premature.

Kinect isn't even out yet so of course there wont be a new Xbox for a couple of years.craigalan23

whew! what a relief! All 3 companies will be giving their consoles a few more years! ( except maybe Nintendo with Wii HD). By the beginning of next gen I'll have my degree, be working (hopefully) and I can buy all 3 systems! Joy!!!

I can't believe some of you are happy to wait another 4-5 years! Technology has already improved so much and were not gonna see that now, I am disappoint.

Doesn't bother me. Hopefully within that time we can see some more cool software with Kinect.

no surprise.... dvds are fine only 1% of video games are on 2+ disc. every time i install a game it doesn't even go over 7gb so think we fine for nowk2theswiss

technology hasn't advanced enough to make a new console worthwhile. the difference in graphics etc. that would be gained would be minimal.

they should spend a while doing R&D towards better hardware to run and lots better cooling on the extreme ass cpu/gpu power ....its like running a 454 bigblock raced out on a honda civic radiator ...no bueno i might add lol

No... i'm getting tired of the 360's graphics already, only Gears of War 3 looks promising. It's all thanks to Kinect which is gonna suck anyway. And no, i'm not trolling, i'm just annoyed by the fact i'm stuck with outdated hardware for another 4 or 5 years. That's just great...

There were design issues with the first 360's due to being rushed out and being first. I want them to take there time and get it right next time, lol

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm getting the new Xbox at the end of next month and I'm glad to see it'll have plenty of new games and old before the next gen.

Huge mistake on Microsoft's part as the console is already showing it's age. Just take a look at some newer PC games and even CoD:MW2 looks terrible on the Xbox 360. As far as the DVD format is concerned they should have used the HD DVD format instead. I realize that this is a dead format for movies, but it would just fine for games. I suppose HD DVD drives would have cut too much into Microsoft's profits.

I'm not biased against Microsoft or the Xbox 360, in fact I think all of the consoles need new versions. The Wii is so outdated I wouldnt even consider buying one.

I think the 360 will be at around for a few more years yet, there are still lots of quality titles coming out in the next few years :)

Whether people realize it or not, this generation is the pinnacle of gaming. This generation alone will last for at least another 3-5 years.

There's still a lot that can be done with this generation, so it can take as long as it wants.
