So like almost every Xbox 360 owner, my system died. I should consider myself one of the lucky ones though as my first Xbox 360 lasted about 5 years. Anyway I bought myself a new 360 and popped in my old HDD. What I did not realize was that I needed to go online and transfer the licenses for all of my downloadable content onto my new Xbox. After doing this, I was missing 4 full versions of arcade games that I had downloaded quite some time ago. I went online to check the download history for my account and it only when back to 2007, 2 years after I had bought and downloaded content on my first Xbox.

So now I get the pleasure of calling Microsoft's helpful and easy to understand outsourced techies (lawl). I call them and explain my situation. I make NO progress and they tell me they can not help me until I come up with a receipt for the Xbox I bought a few weeks ago. They won't believe me that I had paid for and owned these 4 arcade games. I really don't understand how much more proof they need, they clearly don't know enough about the product they are supposed to be experts on. For downloadable content, like arcade games, you can not transfer them over onto someone elses Xbox unless you are playing them under YOUR gamertag on their console. Knowing this I told them that all they needed to do was pull up my account and see that I have a gamerscore for each of those arcade games. They transfer me "up" to the next genius who tells me to go through the same steps I've gone through 20 times. He finally gives up and tells me they will have someone get back to me about it. I told them I either want the games, or the money that I spent purchasing the content from them. They haven't done either yet, and I am on my second cycle of doing this.

Seriously Microsoft, you've got a decent amount of money right? Do you really need to steal my 30 bucks to hire another outsourced techie for the year? I'm so freaking sick of how impossible it is to get in touch with a human being when I call the Xbox hotline. Not only that, but when I do, I'm sick of getting someone I feel like I can't communicate with because they don't know what I am talking about or because of a language barrier. And another thing, do they have to make it so incredibly difficult to cancel your Live account?

If this has ever happened to anyone else, reply to the thread, cause I'd like to know if it's just me who is getting screwed over by Microsoft. Either way, I'm pretty sure I'm done with their consoles, I'll stick to PC gaming from here out.

I've never had to deal with Microsoft over the phone. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. Also, this thread is exactly the same as all the other ones. Perhaps consider putting this into a blog instead of repeating what we've all heard already.

Oh, well I've seen quite a few. I didn't mean to sound rude or anything btw.

I just went and bought a new 360 as well (RROD - 2nd time). Your post makes me feel like I should go and check all my arcade games. I did a hard drive transfer and the download history thing too. I just had so much stuff to "re-download" I zoned out.

On the flip side. When I called in I actually had someone that I could understand I felt like I had won the lottery. The first RROD I got I had a customer service person that could barely speak english. It drove me nuts, every scentence he would say I respond with "what, I don't understand what you're saying". Which his response would be to repeat the same thing only louder. "No no, I can HEAR you fine, I just don't UNDERSTAND your english"... *sigh*

That happened to me when I got Vista - it wasn't recognizing the product code and kept saying I had "pirated software" when I had bought it from BestBuy. I was talking to some guy in India who was telling me to do the things I had already tried a few times before I bit the bullet and called. A full week of back and forth later and I figured it out myself - told them and a day later an american tech calls me to ask how I fixed it. I laid into him about my week of hell with the overseas help - that felt good.

I agree with you there - I had excellent service when I needed my xbox replaced.

i know how u feel, i went through that the other week. i had to go through something like that. i got E74 error, so i call up microsoft the guy talked good english so i was happy. they got me a box. the next couple of days i go to my friend's house. i put in my hard drive that broke E68. so i call up microsoft again give him my serial number, the guy sees it's out of warranty. i tell him no because i just called about e74 error. the guy saids yes but it has been 8 days since the warranty expired... so i ask to talk to a supervisor. i talk to him he saids no, so i was tired of arguing so i told him i'm going to call u back. a couple days later they call me ask for money to fix BOTH xbox and hard drive. i tell them no i hang up. in the end though they fixed my 360 and i got a new hard drive from them.

Yeah it was a real pain to cancel my xbox live account when I could barely understand the lady I was talking too. Also I find it really dumb that you have to call someone to cancel your account, why can't it be done over the internet? >Dumb
