I've been wondering about this myself. Typically, they come out every year since the first, but no word on the third installment. But a 2010 release window is looking slim. I think they're going to push for the new DLC releasing October 5th, and then perhaps more DLC content following that. This is just a hunch but I think they're doing something different with Left 4 Dead 3. Perhaps, a new engine and new gameplay mechanics. I hope this is true because Left 4 Dead series is getting a bit stale, although I love it and enjoy it very much! I wonder what they will do though???
Well, same here mate. I think that's one of the main reasons why we're only seeing content in the form of DLC for Left 4 Dead. Valve is already hard at work with Portal 2 and perhaps Episode 3.

'Typically?' The second one came out one year after the first and that's it. That's hardly 'typical.' Anyway, Valve pushed the second one out way too fast. I doubt we'll see a L4D3 for at least another year or so; they've got a lot else on their plate at the moment.

That's typical enough. Most games do not pass the trilogy stage.

L4D3 needs A DAMN STORY and a much longer campaign is all. (a new engine for sure) IMO the L4D series is a blast but not worth more then $39.99. L4D3 needs to step it up or step aside for Dead Island. (if its ever released)
I'm sure it'll happen eventually. If anything need to be released from Valve it's Half-Life 2: Episode 3. The game it's supposed to be expanding upon is six years old, this is unheard of for a shooter. And theres still no release in sight. Heck, not even screen shots.

Valve dont have the ability to keep a game quiet, and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has been said/released to do with it. Hell they are taking their time releasing the new L4D 1 DLC.

I think he meant "typical" is a poor word choice. You can't really establish a timeline pattern with only two games.
As much as I enjoy their games Valve seems to be a very arrogant company. Six years for an expansion pack? Me thinks that if its ever realeased its just goin to be a full blown sequel that pushes a new engine.
Anyway, on topic, I don't expect a L4D3 at all. They still haven't released the L4D1 DLC thats supposed to be the follow up to The passing, I don't think that we are going to see a new L4D in a few years.

I doubt we'll actually see a brand new engine until the source engine is totally obsolete, which could take a while to happen.
As for a new game, I'd like to play a new Half Life game already... What happened to episodic content being released every 1-2 years?
Although nothings been announced its save to say L4D3 will be made but whether there working on it now or not i dont know, like some of the other guys have already said i wouldnt be suprised if they decide to put L4D3 on hold andwork on Half Life first
i really havent played any left 4 dead series but i would be nice if they had team deathmatch and deathmatches in their third installment

Hell no that is a stupid idea. Then left 4 dead would turn into Modern Warfare 2, or Halo. Beside it already has a versus mode which is kinda like deathmatch in a way. That is good enough.
Honestly, I like the series a lot, but this game needs an overhaul. The decision to make this mostlyan MP affair was a mistake IMO. If they handled it like the HL series it would be even more incredible. Hopefully it will go in that direction.
The enemy AI needs variance as well. The pace is exciting at times but the constant rushing attack of seas of zombies gets old. How about mixing up some fast, with slow and rambling? Depending on level design it would be just as exciting as the RE series. The pacing in the ravenholm level would be perfect.
Left 4 Dead 3 will come out 2012 at the soonest according to Gabe Newell himself.
However, it's doubtful that it'll release in 2012 as Turtle Rock is working on a new project right now. I'm thinking it may be a western titled Whiskey Sour, or at least codenamed that, because of all the hints we've found.

I want L4D3 I just seen a fan made vid like yesterday. they had scorpion from mortal kombat in it Master Chief n Gears of war characters. was freaking epic. get it done Valve get it done. also had the original characters from l4d1
I still wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a fast one on us and revealed that Half Life, Portal, L4D all take place in the same universe, on the same planet. Portal Guns, Gravity Guns and Zombies? Oh my!
