Just bought my Xbox for Xmas and got a used copy of Gears 1. It just won't read. I've cleaned the disc and it looks fine. Gears 2 disc works so does Gears 3. They all say NTSC so it's the right region. What gives?
get a used Xbox 360 too? because disc read errors are common in Xbox 360 in the last throws of its disc drive's life smart people might punt these off to used game stores right away because disc drive issues aren't covered by MS's 3 year warranty
Yeah, I am not sure if you got a pre-owned Xbox 360 or not, but it is always best to buy brand new. I have had a problem like that myself recently, but that is a worldwide problem of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Does the disc have a lot of scratches on it?
Wife got me the 250 Gb new one straight from MS that had Fable 3 and Reach. All other games disc play fine. This used Gears 1 disc works 10%. Should I just buy a disc cleaner?
Sorry for the late reply, didn't see there was one. But absolutely. If you brought a brand new Xbox 360, it really does sound like it is a disc problem. If you haven't already I do think you should buy a disc cleaner :). If it still doesn't work, you may have a faulty disc. Also, if it still doesn't work after cleaning it, see if it installs to your Xbox. If it does install, then you will (should) be able to play the game now, since while you do still need the disc in, the game won't read data from the actual disc itself.
