Hi,

I'm considering getting a 1080p hd tv for xbox 360 games but am wondering why people spend money for larger televisions if the resolution is the same. I wouldn't mind sitting very close to the tv in order to see the minute detail on a 24'' tv. Does anyone have experience with large vs small tvs with xbox games when they are both 1080p?

I really don't know where else to ask this question. I think it is loosely related to the xbox so I hope this topic doesn't get taken down.

Thanks.

It depends on the resolution that the tv offers, but for televisions bigger is almost always better.

A 24" is fine if you are playing 2-4ft from the television, but the reason why people choose larger TV's is because they have to sit further away. Imagine trying to play a game on a 24" while sitting 10ft away... I wouldn't be able to see much; thus the bigger screen is required.

Bigger is always better for either playing video games or for watching movies.

A really big tv gives that immersive feeling. I like to feel like I am in the game or in the movie.

I play on my 1080p mointor at my desk, and on my 1080p 42" tv on a couch. I notice a bit more detail when I'm up close, but I do have bad eyes and the comfyness of couch cannot be ignored.

My crazy friend plays on teh same 42" tv at a distance of 2 feet on a bar stool.

Not entirely true, it also depends on how far you are from the TV and how good your vision is.

The value of TV size really depends on the individual. Like others have said, if you don't have the best eye sight in the world or your set up puts you far from the screen, bigger might have more value. But there is no set condition, that a bigger screen will make for a better gaming experience.

It used to not matter, but now that games have smaller text, a bigger tv helps.

I find that with how some of the text in games can be, it pays to have a big tv.

I game mostly on a 61", but feel that it is too big. I would like to downgrade to a 32" or so.

If your into RPGs then I would say yes, bc a lot of games have small menus with small fonts that are almost impossible to see on a small, standard def tv

It depends on how far you are away from your tv. I choose my tv size for watching tv. If it's okey for watching tv, it's okey for playing games.

Size doesn't matter. It's whether or not you know how to use it.

Quite frankly mate, it's like saying a guys penis size doesn't matter when it comes to satisfying a woman in bed. You can play it on your big fat grandma's TV which hasn't seen High Definition in it's dream. You can even try split-screen on that small crap. But at the end of the day, a good HD LCD TV will rock your world and make your pants tingle.

not entirely true.

like already posted in this thread.

lots of newer games, if played on a standard definition tv, have pretty much unreadable text.

It all depends on how big the room is and how far away you're sitting from the actual screen. If you are sitting within 3 feet of the 24" you should be plenty fine, especially with 1080p, and the resolution is the same, but it just feels different on a larger tv, not that it's better, just that you feel more immersed.

Somewhat. Personally I find games more immersive and enjoyable on a bigger screen, but it's really a matter of preference.

I disagree mate. I once had a Samsung plasma that was just too big. Instead of giving me gaming pleasure it gave me a headache. I ended up returning it for a smaller one.

People spend money on larger televisions because everything looks better on a bigger screen. The resolution could be exactly the same on 2 different sized TVs but I'd probably get more enjoyment out of the bigger one. It just looks nicer on a bigger screen.

It also depends how far away you're sitting from it mate. lol I wouldn't sit 2 feet away from a big screen. Across the room on a couch however and bigger is always better.

I play on a 70" 1080P LCD and I absolutely LOVE it! Games like the Assassins Creed series with those leaps of faith certainly get your attention. Also, when my husband and I play couch coop games like Borderlands .... well, sharing the screen is not a problem! Add a kick'in sound system and it's heaven! :)

Bigger is always better,

Right now I have a 42" Panny Plasma, and now I'm looking into possibly getting the newer ST-50 65" Panny Plasma. While my Dad uses a Panny Projector thats 100". Why, because it's more immersive, and everything is huge. Today expecially when prices have gone down. I can get that ST-50 for a about 300-400 more than what I paid for my 42" 5 years ago. Playing Mass Effect 3 on that 100" is completely different experience than playing it back home on my little 42".

So the prices on Good Quality sets coming down is allowing more people to be able to go bigger.

got a LED 42" HD a couple weeks ago, after having to play on 24" I am happy, I actually didn't play on it alot, the bigger the screen the more immersive the gameplay so my five cents would be get a bigger one

A 1080p television is 1080p regardless of whether it's 24" or 50."

For purely gaming, larger televisions can be a detriment because your eyes have to travel a further distance to notice small details. There's a reason you don't see people playing on giant tv's at competitive gaming events.

If you're just sitting on a couch and playing casually though, I guess large tv's can be impressive.
