Battlefield Bad Company 2: Hit indicator option?

Been considering this game and would like to know if there's an option setting to switch off that annoying 'X' that pops up when you shootan enemy.

I played the beta and it really annoyed me. Surely DICE would put an option in to remove it?

it annoys you? tis a noob's (me) best friend for firing through trees and in shadowed buildings.

anyhow, I don't think there'd be a hit indicator in hardcore.
