who else is like me, playing games simply for Gamerscore, or to rub hard-to-achieve achievments you have done in your friends faces?

I still play games for fun.

I don't care about Gamer scores and I think achievements are just an extra challenge.

I do complete the fun achievements and just ignore the hard (not fun) ones.

What's the point of gaming if you're not having fun.

its true, but yet my statement poses true for alot of 360 gamers. I have fun on games like COD4, and Halo 3, and LO. But as for almost all other games, including the XBL arcade games, most people look at the games in terms of easy achievments. i guess im not yet an achievment whore, since i use games like Avatar, and the 2k6 sports games to get my GS high.

heres a good example. Say you went out and bought a game like Army of Two. Yeah, it was good. You played co-op with your friend. Youve pretty much had so much fun, the game now seems to start to get boring. Of course, you cant return it, but you could trade it in to GS eh? but intead of losing $30, you force yourself to complete the dreadful game, to simply earn those extra 200gs.

now thats a case many 360 gamers have endured :P

Microsoft is just smart enough to realize that the achievements system is the perfect way to appeal to the competitive American gamer. Our society for males is geared towards competition in all facets.

If you think that the 360 is bad, wait until high school/college/real life. Competition permeates every aspect of American society.

It amazes me that you have friends. Man, your poor friends. They must be smaller than you.

Seriously kid (yeah I know you have to be a kid) you've got issues.

this is true, not just in american culture, but north american culture in general. while i was growing up i knoticed that all the boys around me had this strange urg to tern every lil thing into a competition of some kind, or atleast find some reason to say "ha ha i'm better than you". i'v never been able to relate to that kind of way of thinking and in doing so i tend to strive for accomplishments out of my own self satisfaction rather then trying to rub it in somone els's face, but hey thats just me. i guess thats why i'm not a half retarted hillbillie spurting racist comments all over xbox live.

Mixing fun with achievements is the key, i mean i only get games that i consider fun and try to get those achievements....but for example some ppl buy crappy games like Avatar:TBA just because of the gamerscore which is rlly pathetic.

I agree with you to an extent. Whenever I get a new game I flip open my laptop and see what the acheivents are and I remember a few to shot for. But I'll only play a game that I'm interested in. If it isn't what I thought it was I might not even finish it.

I like the nextgen style of having rewards and achievements

but getting excited about a gamer score?

The game is there for an interactive entertainment not so you can run about town boring tyhe hell out of everyone you meet by informing them the 74th time that your gamer score is STILL 234 points higher than their little sisters.

Its like bragging that you have had every flavor of icecream in the shop, yeah that's cool that you have tried every fudge ripple and rum raisin. But did you even enjoy it!?!?

competition is what makes us better ourselves so we can be the best at whatever. I love a good competition and live for it. As for 360 games being used for nothing but achievements? That i dont do. I play games that i think would be or are fun and hearing that little blip is just the icing on the cake. After youre done, they just add replay value because you think to yourself, " That sounds hard to do, lets see if i can."

I have no idea what my GS is right now, or if it's better than anyone on my friend's list (probably not since I got mine so recently, but still...). I play games because I want to have fun after a long day at work. If I really want to be competitive I'll play some COD4, not look up what everyone's GS is in each game and see if I beat them.

Games are a way to make life difficult for the fun of it so i think it serves its end

Also, i find it funny how its always the "all "other gamers are like that but i'm not" attitude of the OP

showing off? I have never tried to show off with my gamerscore. I game for fun and i actually do consider achievements fun. I hardly go out of my way to earn them but I think of it as a good way of bench marking for a game.

I enjoy the acheivments. The way I look at it (and the reason I think it's there) is to have fun gaining these achievements, not to show off them.

exactly, all that matters is whether you are having fun. i suck at MP but i still play sometimes just for a laugh. my k/d is always negative but i dont care.

i quite like achievements, not for any particular reason but its nice to just scroll through them now and again to reminisce over games youve completed

Well im not going to lie, I do strive for achievements. But I never get achievements for the reason to rub it in peoples faces. They are for my satisfaction. But the longer ive had my 360 the less ive cared about achievements. Its now more beating the games and if I get achievements., good if I dont who cares
