Not having these systems be backwards compatible will be a big negative for both consoles. Many people trade in their older consoles and keep their favorite games of said older console and use the trade in credit toward the newer system. All new systems go through game droughts; but you had the option to play your xbox classics on the 360, and many new ps2 games (God of War II) on the PS3.

This is not the case anymore so I feel a whole lot of people will keep their PS3s and XBOX360 and they will not rush out and buy these new consoles. Think about it, how long were you able to pre-order the XBOX1 and PS4? I remember the 360, Wii, and PS3 pre orders selling out very quicky.

I plan on getting them. I have a Wii U, PS3, PS Vita, and 3DS. Also have PS4 pre ordered. I mean most people won't early adopt as they have in the past. Both consoles might have numbers similar to Wii U

I remember the 360, Wii, and PS3 pre orders selling out very quicky.

illmatic8582

So you want to buy a PS4 so you can play PS3 games on it?

Chances are anyone who buys a PS4 already has a PS3, you could you know, keep it and play PS3 games on it. Or if someone wants a PS3 bad enough they can buy one. But youre acting like you can only own and use one console at a time.

When dvd players came out I never said "this is bullshit, it doesnt play vhs tapes on it". When I buy some new entertainment form I intend to it use it for its entertainment, not what was before it.

Would backwards compatibility to be cool? Of course and I would use it. But Im not going to bitch that I dont have it because like I said, I want a PS4 to play PS4 games on it.

[QUOTE="illmatic8582"][QUOTE="jsmoke03"][QUOTE="illmatic8582"] It's not that simple for most people. Most people do not want several game consoles.

so just wait til these consoles can stream past gen games

I plan on getting them. I have a Wii U, PS3, PS Vita, and 3DS. Also have PS4 pre ordered. I mean most people won't early adopt as they have in the past. Both consoles might have numbers similar to Wii U

most people never adopt but not because of backwards compatibility. its based on price, availability and if there are no games. i know you said that as part of the argument that there should be backwards compatability but look what that did for the ps3.....there is too little of a minority for people that want bc.....most people that wait are waiting for games and or price

Gargus

Obviously not buying a PS4 just to play PS3 games. I'm buying a PS4 because I want to have the newest gadgets. But most people do not need or want the newest. They will be perfectly fine playing GTA 5, Beyond two souls etc. I'm not bitching, but not being backwards compatible will effect both systems. That's just a fact

[QUOTE="illmatic8582"][QUOTE="EthicalBandit"]If both consoles were BC, they would be $100 more each. If you already have the console and games , just keep the console.Masenkoe

I get why its a bit of a bummer not having BC and I would have liked to have seen it but they choose the specs and the type of architecture to provide us with a powerful and easier to programme for console. The only other option was base it of the old console to have BC but then have it still difficult to programme for. I think both did the right thing with the type of systems they are running even If I would have liked to have seen abit more power in them.
