The picture was just an ordinary 3DS, probably a translation error, it is a Japanese based magazine so pretty likely.
They wouldn't announce a 3DS lite so soon, no need the 3DS is selling well and they are currently losing money on each unit sold, so releasing a new one so soon will probably lead to more losses. It's not like the internal chips and batteries would have improved enough to go smaller and lighter, not until late 2012-2013.
If that is indeed the Lite model, then I feel FAR LESS bad in buying a launch model. I've been playing games for almost a year on the thing. I do hope that isn't it though because I was hoping for something much better.
Always thought there would be a 3DS Lite, in fact I refuse to buy a 3DS until that happen.
And I still don't get how some people still believe there won't be. I mean it's not like Nintendo has never done that with every single one of their handhelds before. And the current 3DS is so damn perfect with it's poor battery life, lack of 2nd analog or that flaw where the lower screen scratch the upper one.
I mean comon why would Nintendo even think of releasing a revision. :|

The GBA came out in 2001. The GBA SP came out in 2003.
The DS came out in 2004. The DS Lite came out in 2006.
The 3DS came out in 2011. The 3DS Lite will most likely come out in 2013.
Give it another year, people.

3DS Lite hitting Q3 or Q4 2012is a huge possibility

But yeah, I could see a revision happening this December or early January.
Not Q3 though. That just seems a little too early.

It doesn't need a second analog, its a handheld system designers should make there games designed for the system not a home console.
And whatever you said about the lower screen scratching the upper one is a bunch of bull.

It's basically Ninty's call.
Personally, I don't think a revision is warranted until next year considering the 3DS is already aethestically pleasing and all that.
But like I said, I won't be surprised if it came out end of Q3 or early Q4.

Nintendo tends to announce these things months in advance.
Perhaps a TGS announcement in September with a holiday release?
I think this next E3 is going to be all about the Wii U. A handheld revision announcement would just get in the way of things.
If you look the verson of this topic on the 3DS forums, you'll see a post by ShuichiChamp24

So yeah, seems like its nothing more than them speculating.
The revision wont have a 2nd analog!! Thats like Sony giving the ps2 slim 4 controller ports. ppl will be pissed!KaszillaUm, how would giving a certain model four controller ports (something Sony should have done, I might add) a bad thing?
I doubt it, but I would be happy if they did. It will cost me what? 50 bucks to upgrade to it. No big deal to me.
I don't care. The little beast is already too small anywayLost-Memory
Yeah I do not want it any smaller. My only big complaint is the design having the screen scratching issues. Aside from this, there is not much that bothers me.
So it'll be slightly thinner and have better battery life? and that's it? It's not worth upgrading yet if you already have a launch unit.

A bunch of bull huh, yet I've heard a fair share of complains about it.
And if it doesn't need a 2nd analog why the hell did Nintendo felt the need to release an ugly bulky 2nd analog attachment. There better be a 2nd analog built in in that revision. I'm sure 3rd parties would appreciate that aswell as future owners as they'd never have to buy such an ugly *** attachment.

The remodel WILL likely have the second stick, and the thing about screen scratching is TRUE. I own the 3DS and have noticed slight scuff marks. I don't even know if it is scratched yet, or just dust from the bottom screen, but the border from the touch screen certainly touches the top screen when closed. Look at your screen in sunlight and I bet you'll notice some marks--thats how I noticed.
But yes, the remodel will offer something that entices current owners to upgrade. Two analog sticks just offers better controls and opens up for more genres on the portable.
That wouldn't be a good idea since we'll start getting games that REQUIRE the second analog attachment. The second analog is not meant to be standard, and I hope it stays that way. I like to be persuaded to buy a product, not forced because the hardware I bought is now defunct. Unless I'm getting 10 ambassador games.Eponique
I understand the frustration, and I bet Nintendo knows complaints are inbound once the dual stick unit is revealed. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo sells the stick attachment for a short while--it will probably be bundled with MH--and then eventually offers it free with some form of program; you register you system and it is free by mail.
If you ask me, anyone who didn't think a revision is coming is in denial. Of course a revision of the 3DS will come but it for sure isn't confirmed to be anytime soon. Could be the end of this year or it could be next year, all we have to go on is speculation.
Its not like I'm bothered that I got my 3DS though. I'm loving it now, its getting plenty of use and I'm excited for what's to come.
And what is wrong with revised hardware? The PSP went through 3 different, major, revisions over its lifespan. Hell, the PS3 and 360 have gone through what... 10 each? I don't see the issue here.foxhound_fox
The PS3 seems to update every dang time I turn it on!

Why??? the 3DS lite is not coming anytime soon.
I beg to differ. When is MH coming out? If wiiu is coming out next holiday(nov/dec) then the remodel will be out before that.
Please edit your OP and your topic title Its a Japanese source simply speculating it could happen. At no moment does it say "our sources indicate" Unless you want everyone to think you're a person who can't even read, or have google translate your web page and that you jumped to a conclusion before thinking about what you were going to post.http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=457722

Yes because selling 12 million systems in 9 months worldwide is something Nintendo is against. Are you kidding me? They will milk the current model til its dry. By the time the March 27th anniversary comes up the 3DS will be between 14-16 million units, and by the time 2012 ends it will likely be near 30 million or more. They won't do it in 2012, sure they could ANNOUNCE it in late 2012 for Spring 2013, but it won't hit any stores until 2013 at the earliest. They already have to deal with the Wii U launch. They'd have to come up with an actual improvement before a revision comes, the DSlite was needed because the original DS had a terrible design and a pretty poor screen too.
The 3DS is well designed, so a revision will only come either when they can get a better battery and/or a 3D screen with a wider viewing angle, and possibly a second analog stick. A more likely scenario will be an XL version.
I can't see a lite version coming out as it is already the same size as the DSlite, so a revision will be a waste of time unless they want it really small, with a 2 inch screen.
I could see a form factor change. Perhaps a sliding design, I dunno. They'd have to come up with an actual improvement before a revision comes, the DSlite was needed because the original DS had a terrible design and a pretty poor screen too.

a newer design would have longer battery life and a better camera. Not that big a deal. If a newer version is thinner that would be good but I'm happy with the feel of my 3DS. The 3DS is based on the DSlite anyway so... I'm just hoping that they don't make a revision with a second analog stickGunSmith1_basicDunno why they would go lite, they need to make a 3DS XL, 4" screen with a bigger battery. 3DS is pretty much a DS lite in terms of size.
