I just downloaded Knights of the Old Republic off of Steam. The game starts fine, but once I get to the title screen I can't select anything. My cursor will move, but I can't click on any of the options and I have to close it via task manager. Anyone else have this issue?

Well, compatability mode doesn't work. It seems it's a 50/50 chance of even getting to the title screen. Half the time it just minimizes to the taskbar. Did a little digging and found that there are issues with newer ATI cards. Apparently nobody has really found a work around. Guess I'm out $9.99.

Same thing happened to me but with another game, Jade Empire. It was a resolution problem.

It's strange. When I am able to get to the title screen I can move my cursor, but I can't click on a single thing.

Think I figured it out. I had to disable the movies in the configuration file. Works fine now except for no widescreen support.

I had the same problem with the movies on my old PC only with KOTOR 2.It kinda sucks that way though, you'll miss some big parts of the story if you haven't played it before. As I recall there was a patch that fixed this issue in KOTOR 2, maybe there is one for 1 aswell. It's worth a look imo.

Yeah, you have to download the high resolution movie patch. I don't remember if it worked on not on my game but I became frustrated with something and ended up not installing it. By the way, try out the mod/patch the restores all the lost content. It actually fixed a lot of the bugs I was experiencing and I get all the extra content. Oh and I had to play the game with the 2 black boxes on the sides with my widescreen laptop.

kotorfiles.com - That's where all the KOTOR mods are =P

The game has a really high replay value so you might wanna complete it without modding it first :)

Thanks for all the replies. At least it's playable now, but I certainly don't want to miss any large portions of the story. I'll keep searching to see if I can find a fix.

Play it in windowed mode. Go to the game folder, find the swkotor.ini(or something similar), add the extra line "AllowWindowedMode=1" under [Graphics Options]. I'm using Win 7 as well, and for some reason ingame movies would always cause game freezes if playing in fullscreen.

Got it sorted. Had to make a shortcut and set the core affinity.

Set target as

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C START "swkotor" /affinity 0x1 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\swkotor\swkotor.exe"

Now it works perfectly, though slightly stretched.

I'm running Kotor on 7 64bit. Haven't had problems. I'm also using a widescreen mod that enables you to play in whatever resolution you want to. I have mine at 1920x1200. LINK

Thank you for this solution. I just reinstalled it for a playthru after so many years (in light of TOR coming out!) and encountered these very problems myself. The above solution (so far) seems to have fixed it. I have no trouble with it being stretched though, most likely because I've explicitly used a patch to play in 1920x1080 widescreen.

I had that issue turn out if you move your cursor around, eventually you'll be able to click. Your cursor will most likely have to be higher and off to the side of where you actually want to click in order for it to work properly. The cursor image is not lined up with where the cursor actually is.

Strange problem. I installed in on Windows 7 64 bit without any issues. In fact it's one of the few MMOs I've played that's never given me any issues.
