Hey,

I own a 32" Samsung 720p TV, that supports 1080p signals so it can upscale to 1080p but the TV isn't 1080p, I don't know if you understand, but if you do I was wondering, is it worth setting my PS3 to run at 1080p and then my TV will upscale it to 1080p or should I just leave it to 720p? I'm not sure if I can really notice a difference between the two but I really haven't got any graphic monster 1080p game to see a difference, and since my TV is fine, It's only a year old and I don't really want to have to buy a new TV but I want to get the best I can out of my PS3 for the best experience, but I'm not to sure what to expect I've only had a Wii and the games I play are Starcraft and Warcraft III and I thought Warcraft III looked amazing, I am a new PS3 owner so this is a big upgrade for me.

Thanks, James.

Leave it to 720p, most PS3 games are in 720p and even a little less.

List of games in sub HD(above 480p and below 720p) and HD(720p and higher) here.

Well with my Virgin Media Box I can set it to 1080p but I don't really see a difference, but I guess it's because there are not many HD channels on TV.

There is no such thing as a 720p that upscales to 1080p. It migh take a 1080p picture and downscale it to 720p but not the other way around.

It sounds as though I may have the same TV as you and I run my PS3 at 1080p. See, assuming we have the same TV it isn't actually 720p but 768p, meaning running at 1080p just manages to scale a few more pixels in. I have not found any problems with running in 1080p, it doesn't seem to zoom out the menu, or make anything unreadable or undistinguishable. I guess the only con of running at 1080p is that it uses more power...

Actually...first gen lcd tv's did do this. There are native 720p tv's that do upscale to 1080p/i. Do some research please. Anyways, in response to the op question at 33 inches I would just keep your display setting at 720p since the majority of games run at 720p.

720p are fixed displays, how would it upscale to 1080p? if anything it would accept the 1080 signal and downscale it to fit the display.

many hd ready tv sets (720p) do support 1080i, which states that this resolution is achieved by interlacing... 1080p constitutes to 1080 vertical pixels and unless a tv set is 1080p it is not able to show it... i wouldn't recommend buying a 1080p tv set just because of the games, because most of them are still using 720p... 1080p is supported by blu-ray movies, which are downscaled to 1080i in hd ready tv sets, whcih again do look quite good...

there is no such thing, a 720p tv has 1280x720 pixels so it can never and I mean NEVER display 1080p which is 1920x1080 pixels. You can downscale from 1080p to 720p or you can upscale from 720p to 1080i.

I have a 32" Samsung LCD and a 46" Samsung LCD, I have gamed on both and have run both 720p and 1080i and it is only very slightly noticable when you reallylook on the 46" and the 1080i is better. Both are awesome pictures though but it should make only a tiny difference for you with a 32" lcd, I leave my 32" on 720p.
