Portal Physics. Mind = Blown.

I was just looking at /b/, when I came across this. Normally I wouldn't post stuff copypasta from /b/ on other boards, but this is actually pretty interesting and not just plain stupid. Also, I thought I'd post this here as opposed to the GGD or Portal/Orange Box board since it's more of a physics question than a Portal question. Although I'd happily report this topic if a mod things it would be a better fit elsewhere.

Yeah I've posted that here before actually. The simple reality is that a portal device couldn't exist. It breaks the conservation of energy law etc.domatron23

Actually, I think it'd just hang there. Where would it fall to? There's no empty space below it for it to occupy.

Hmm, that does create a few problems. The metal column should be stuck... at least it can't lean to the left or right anymore. And I don't even want to speculate what'll happen if you move the top portal closer or farther away >_>Hungry_bunny
