I'm a real fan of MMORPG and I'd like to know what's the opinion of the professionnals. Which one is the best out there..? But here's the trick.. I've played WoW and I'm completly bored of it (fighting over some loot, power leveling and the number of ******* playing this game is astonishing.. but anyway).. So WoW isn't in the choice.

Plus.. do you think the upcoming ones (Age of Conan, Warhammer Online) have a chance to be even better ?

Your opinion people...

I too am a WoW veteran. I too am bored of it, although i loved the time i had on the game.

Warhammer is the MMORPG that has me excited above all others. I loved PvP in WoW and the PvP in Warhammer sounds amazing. I tried LoTR online after i finished WoW, as well as Everquest but found both of these a little too serious and maybe too hardcore.

Personally i am waiting for Warhammer.

City of Villains.

There is an official review from the staff here, and many users (like me) write a review about the game, I invite you to go read them.

Ya see, the reason why the majority of pay 2 play MMO's flop are basically because they bring absolutely nothing new to the table, lets face it, when wow came out it re-engineered the MMO practically. WAR looks like it has potential to make or break itself, with the fact PvP is so heavily relied upon, if its good it will make this game thrive, but if its bad, itll totally break the game, the next massive MMORPG if you ask me will be AION, which actually brings new things, death being a part of the game, and flying combat, plus it runs of the unreal 3 engine so looks mint.

He asked out there.

I recommend to check out Dark Age of Camelot, EVE Online, EverQuest 2 and Lord of the Rings Online.

I am a WoW player, and yes I too get bored so I take breaks upwards of a few months.

But I will be honest, I Have tried a lot of the recent MMOs and I always say "Its good, but not as fun as WoW"

Ive tried LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, and others and they just get boring too fast.

I recommend EVE, its the only 100% unique MMO out there. No elves, no talent points, no magic...just space ships, skill points, equipment, and an awesome community to boot.

Well i found the tabula rasa client to be extremely buggy, LORTO brought nothing new to the table apart from crits during crafting, EVE is only for the hardcore, EQ is so far forward a new player would struggle to find there place in it.

I think Ultima Online had that too.. so LOTRO wouldn't have anything new then.. :)

WoW killed MMORPGs all together so find something else. It made the genre extremely easy and forgiving. I mean you don't even have to do corpse runs or lose exp when you die? Haha give me a break. Soloing to max lvl? What is this? Max lvl in a month? Hahahaha. EQ1 before the PoP expansion was where it was at. Sadly kids are getting lazy so they need max lvl within a month and solo so I will never see a EQ1 again. One last thing. No corpse runs? Hahahaha. MMORPG on training wheels that ruined the entire genre.

THe best MMORPG's are long dead and gone, at least compared to what they were back in the day. Ultima Online, the original Everquest, early Dark Age of Camelot, Asheron's Call......

They just aren't the same anymore, and I doubt they ever will be.

no I think you missed it buddy. WoW hasnt killed MMORPGS, infact its made it a lot more popular. The only single context devourment423 and you sir can be right on is that WoW has raised the bar on mmorpgs thus killing crappier mmorpgs to come out without forcing them to relook it and see if it has that funfactor to drag players away from the ultra powered magnet that is WoW.

Agreed. No other game had me terrified every single second I was on since pre-PoP EQ1. There is no death penalty in these games any more. I don't fear anything in WoW.... even if it can kill me ten times over.

You have a problem if you solo max level in a month. And if your on a PvP server you basically have to group after 30, and if you want to do what makes WoW great you need to party anyway. and You do have to corpse run?

Most people find that frustrating and boring. Having to walk 2-5 mins is enough for me.

ya pretty much. WoW is good because of its appeal to casual players. I think holding that against it is like criticizing a Toyota Carolla for not being as fast as a Ferrari; they both good products, they both have negatives, but they both have a purpose.

Just live and let live, guys.

Just for the information of some posters here...

It was possible to get to max level in EQ by soloing, no matter the era and place in time; it was just not possible for every class (LOL at warriors/rogues). As soon as they remove the hell levels, it was also possible to do it in 1 month for some classes.

In pre-Kunark EQ, the first hundred peoples at level 50 on any server, they were almost all soloers...not groupers. And they where hardcore freaks; no matter what you want to believe. They where also very nice to me, help me a lot. Soloers where mostly nice...of course a few jerks exists, and would train you (train of mobs, not the art of teaching). And some fascists would think that a group have a right to a camp and chase a soloer away...but how can you blame a soloer for telling you that he was already on the spot for 3 hours and intent to do it many more? I couldn't myself and learn to play with them, unlike some peoples who specialised in wiping other...I could prolly write a book on how uberguilds wipe peoples out of where they want to hunt, and how they usually succeed, which is a big downer for any MMO. Droods where not groupers, many rangers where not groupers, necro and mages who max level early where not either, the first clerics at max level where undead hunter...in solo...and the list would go on.

MMOs are more varied then before. Players are more "skilled" then before. A corpse run? The guy is already defeated, beating on a dead horse isn't going to improve the game. I couldn't say I have suffered badly from CR...a few hours here and there because of some raiding mistakes. But everything existing in a CR that could be "positive", can be placed on a regular quest instead which is undertaken by the player, at a place and moment he wants. Enforcing a harsh mission or a time consuming mission on someone who just experience a failure...that was a bad idea on so many levels.

Uberguilds and PKers are very similar for a MMO in the long run. It is just a different twist of the same dirtyness.

I think Ultima Online had that too.. so LOTRO wouldn't have anything new then.. :)

What about the deed system? Or dread? Or monster-play? There are some minor things that are new.

Wow, you guys get right into this. Alright let me start by saying my first MMORPG was WoW and I just recently stated playing it. However, I probably missed a lot of great MMOG's but WoW made RPG's fun for everyone not just hardcore players. I'm just guessing but WoW didn't put in a death penalty because if there is a crapping player and he keeps dying, he will lose interest and not play the game thus Blizzard does not rack in the dough so to speak. I guess what I'm saying is that WoW has made the game fun for everyone, unfortunately some little kids being jerks do seem to leak into the servers.

officialy wow is the best mmorpg out there, although there are tones of games coming out so no one really knows which on will be a wow killer. the following games could be a threat to WOW . the big mmorpg`s: WOW EQ guild wars eve LOTRO Warhammer online Pirates of the burning sea Final fantasy Age of conan the big coming soon mmorpg`s: aion online by NCsoft EQ2 guild wars 2 my theoty is that blizzard will either kill themselfs or resseruct. they can kill themselfs by anouncing a new MMO which i doubt they will do or they will w8 for WOW`s population to decrease alot so they would anounce a new mmo. i think it is better to kill themselfs so that players will play a game by bliz rather than tring to bring them back from another game. anyways im waiting for the WOW killer.
