[QUOTE="sith_acolyte15"]OU? :PEspurs117
The whole point is to win a tiebreaker.
I kinda think he just did :P
[QUOTE="sith_acolyte15"]What team won the Big 12 last season? :PEspurs117
Are we really talking about winning conferences? Hey at least Texas beats their rival. ;)
We beat 3 of the 4.:? We'll probably only go 8-4, or something like that this year, so, I'm not expecting a whole lot, except a lot of trash talk from you guys. :P
[QUOTE="Steelers_86"][QUOTE="sith_acolyte15"]What team won the Big 12 last season? :PEspurs117

What you laughing at? You got owned by Michigan.
You want to go back to comparing Tebow and McCoy? That worked out well for you last season...

Actually it was a Florida fan who started the comparisons. ;)
[QUOTE="bjvb15"]This is why I love college sports over professional sports. It's not even football season and the trash talk has started.

What are you talking about? The trash talk never stopped.
Damn straightAre we really talking about winning conferences? Hey at least Texas beats their rival. ;)

Loss to OU, loss to A&M, beat tech...
So Tech counts as the rival now? ;)

I was going by recent years not this past year, since OSU has owned Michigan for awhile now. Tech counts as your rival, and you guys can't beat them :P And hey we moved on from this subject! So SHHH!
Most of the Sparty fans must be Detroit Lions fans. Because it's the same thing every year. They always say "this year is our year". Then by mid-season, you can't find them. The Sparty "fans" have moved on to B-ball, and the Lions fans have....well, nobody really cares what they do by that point. They're beyond irrelevant. :Psith_acolyte15
Of course it's their year. They got the most votes to have their mascot on the cover of NCAA 09 for the Wii. They will reverse the "Curse of the Cover"
[QUOTE="orthancstone"]Just because tech sees the A&M game as their Super Bowl doesn't mean A&M gives a damn about tech as a "rival." :PEspurs117
lol and the Aggies don't see the UT game as their superbowl? I realize UT sees it as a huge game too, but its still under OU.
Bah, texas fans are way too biased based on timeline. 40 years ago you'd say Arkansas instead of OU, meanwhile A&M was still THE in-state rival. And yes, texas is the Superbowl game for A&M but let's face it: People on both sides love the Thansgiving game, even if it is irrelevant to the standings.

Oh don't get me wrong the A&M rivalry is big. I hate you, lol. I think its a top 10 rivalry and probally the most underrated out there. I guess the OU rivalry is up there now because it usually means a trip to the Big 12 title game. Trust me tho, every UT fan I know hates the Aggies....but it's more like hey if anyone is gonna win I hope its the Aggies and not the damn Sooners. Plus I don't know any UT fan that doesn't has at least a few Aggie friends.
P.S. What do you think of Bennett on the Boys?
It never fails, every horn fan I know pulls for the Aggies against the sooners. For good reason though, screw OU .
PS-I love Bennett being picked up by the Boys :D. Should be really good for him, he's not ready to be the number 1 guy yet (he probably thinks he's ready, but he's not) and he'll get plenty of development in Dallas.
North Texas and SMU (, gg Death Penalty still haunting you) have been rivals recently as both teams underwhelm their fan bases.
BTW, I didn't really want to start crap earlier but this article kinda defines my opinion of the Red River SHOOTOUT (emphasis mine to fight the man). Horn fans consistently think they are the elite in the conference but I hate to break it to ya: 2 championship game visits in this decade just doesn't cut the mustard when compared to the team (cougheffingbastardscough) that has dominated the conference overall. I know y'all have the most recent national title in all the Big 12, but VY is gone and it doesn't look good for the coming years at current pace (mark my words, McCoy will be fighting for his starting position by the end of the year). This guy is right: The game doesn't always determine who goes on to the Big 12 Championship game and as of late it hasn't been the most relevant thing in the world (VY's win over Ohio State was much more relevant IMO to the horns getting to the NC game). Add in some major upsets (texas blowing 2 in a row to K-State and A&M, OU choking hard in Colorado and Hell [aka Lubbock]), and it seems more like the Big 12 underachieving is the problem...which doesn't speak much to the Shootout being so important.
Actually, to really drive my point home, I reference something I said in response to some homers recently: If not for Vince Young and Nixon, the state of Texas hasn't produced a National title since 1969 (say what you want about 1970, but Nixon's BS had MAJOR sway and completely shut out Penn State's claim at being declared the National Champions). That's appalling when you consider the amount of talent that this state puts out. Which begs the question: Do the schools in this state really underachieve that hard (the answer is partially yes given that the second biggest school, A&M, hasn't dominated since the 1910s and 1939 [should've had a title with Bear Bryant but some lame crap there led to dropping two games in a row to choke it away])? Should schools in this state really be struggling this badly to reach the highest national stage? The fact that we do is a reason why our rivalries are falling by the wayside to lamers like Ohio State and Michigan ;) .

The reason why Texas fans are excited every year is because there the only team in the nation that has won 10 games 7 straight years. Also yes the OU/Texas game is important when it comes to the title game. In 03 Texas would of gone to a BCS game if OU didn't blow it against KSU. In 04 the only game they lost was to OU, and they made the Rose Bowl that year and beat Michigan, hence the winner of that game (tex/ou) made the title game. The year after that was the Title year for Texas. So my point is yes the OU/Texas game usually/lately means BCS game shot. Yes OU and Texas have both blown it late in the season with teams like Tech, A&M. OSU and KSU...but the winner of the the Texas/OU game is usually in the driver seat. I don't think were the "elite team" in the conference but you better believe the winner of OU/Texas is usually the best team. Who has done more than OU and Texas the last 6 years? Certainly no one in the South. Your Aggies have pulled upsets over OU and UT, but you have not gotten farther than a Cotton Bowl. Remember I am talking about the last 7 or so years, since Texas as won 10 games a year. Also this whole if not for VY UT would not have a title since 69.....okay? I don't see why people get on that. The same can be said about many teams. Other than USC and Miami I don't see many programs winning a title every 3 years or making huge runs to BCS Bowl games in a succesful fashion (OU has lost 5 BCS games in a row, hooray!). Mack Browns highly rated recruiting finally paid off. Oh and I would not be surprised to see the Chiles wagon get huge this year and if McCoy starts to throw some INT's then yeah I can see the cry for Chiles. Either way tho, Chiles will get alot of playing time this year. Similar to what Tebow saw his Freshman year.
Let me just say this. The Big 10 is the most overrated conference in the nation. First of all you don't have a Conference Championship game. That is a huge advantage. The Big 12 knows how tough a Conference Championship Game is. Oklahoma losing to Kansas State, Texas losing to Colorado (Applewhite subs Simms!), etc. Also this (usually) automatic bid to the Rose Bowl, is a joke. Last year Illinois in no way deserved to be in that game. What because you face ND every year we got to give you guys a break? lawl. The same can be said about the Pac-10. USC is for real every year, but it makes you think what if they had to face Cal twice a year on a neutral field?
This leads me to my point of the Big 12 this year. The Big 12 is stacked this year. UT, OU, Mizzou, Kansas, Tech(meh) and A&M are all dangerous contenders. So even if a team liek OU or Texas goes tru undefeated......there gonna have to face Mizzou or Kansas again!....in Kansas City, Missouri! Oh but don't worry im sure the BCS committee would love to see another Big 10 team in the title game.
Seriously tho, I know many UT fans have gotten big headed since 05 but hey give me a break! Im not that BIG of a homer. :P Either way, I can't wait till the start of the season. UT taking the Lone Star shootout this year buddy!
