Your Top Ten Mario Games

Ok guys moment of truth.

Top Ten Mario games.

Only rules. 1) You have to be able to play as Mario and 2) No spinoffs (Mario Kart, Smash, etc.) We'll save that for another discussion.

Here's mine and it was tough.

10. Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story

9. Super Mario Sunshine

8. Super Mario Bros. 2

7. Super Mario Galaxy

6. Super Mario 64

5. Super Mario Bros. 3

4. Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door

3. Super Mario RPG

2. Super Mario Galaxy 2

1. Super Mario World

This is a tough list for me to make. My favorite Mario game ever (plus my critique) is Super Mario Galaxy 2, but I do not know the rest yet. I really need to think about it.

So this is between the platformers and RPGs then? One question, does Yoshi's Island count (technically you CAN play as Mario when you're invincible)? I can't make any list until I know whether or not Yoshi's Island is eligible (personally speaking, I always felt it was more a part of the "main" series than the New Super Mario games ever were).SloganYams

I would include the two Yoshi's Island games because of the subtitle. I would not include ones like Yoshi's Cookie and Yoshi's Story.

I would stay stick to the main Mario titles and RPGs. Games where you play as Mario on a quest to defeat Bowser or some other foe trying. Meaning you start out as Mario and play as him at least the majority of the time.

Don't worry we'll do another thread devoted to spinoffs.

It seems to be a matter of debate of whether the RPGs are main "cannon" or not.

I was always under the impression that the RPGs were spinoffs. The games I always thought fell under the main series were the console platformers, excluding New Super Mario games (which is its own sub-series, even Nintendo identifies it as such). But, I will still follow the rules and make a list based on the Mario platformers and RPGs, though since Yoshi's Island and the Mario Karts are left out my list won't be completely definitive, but oh well. It's all good. 

Sorry to say but we already had these topics before (worst Mario character too), but I guess it's okay if the leader doesn't mind.game-ster23

Yeah, it is fine. Most of the users that posted in the older versions are not here today.

Alright, here's what my list of top 10 best Mario games (minus Yoshi's Island and Mario Kart) would probably look like:

10: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

9: Super Mario Sunshine

8: Super Mario Bros. 3

7: Paper Mario

6: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga

5: Super Mario 64

4: Super Mario Galaxy

3: Super Mario Galaxy 2

2: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

1: Super Mario World

That's probably what it would look like. Although numbers 1 & 2 are interchangeable really. Ask me tomorrow and SMRPG might be at the top. Also, It's been a while since  I played Thousand-Year Door, so it might be higher when I play it again. Bowser's Inside Story gets an honorable mention, but I feel Superstar Saga still personifies the M&L series best.

5. "Super Mario Land II: 6 Golden Coins" for the Game Boy.

It is an underappreciated game. It still has the best 3D on the 3DS.

Besides the top 3 on my list, the rest are still up for debate, but I'll keep it that way for now.
