Yoshida on Low Scored Launch Titles

Poor Sony are trying harder than anyone but PS4 will dominate. I'm sure. This is only the beginning.

"Yeah, it's disappointing to see some of the low scores," Yoshida told GamesIndustry.biz. "I haven't spent enough time reading reviews, but I would characterize them as mixed."

"And with this launch there are lots of games coming out, so the media must be very busy going through the games quickly," he continued, "and especially since the online functionality wasn't ready until in the last couple days. So we have to look at how much time they spend on what aspect of the games and how that may be contributing to some of the lower scores. It's disappointing but I don't think it's worrisome for the launch of the system.

"I've played through all of our games, Killzone, Knack and Resogun, and I totally enjoyed playing through these games. I'm now on my second run of Knack and Resogun at a higher difficulty - these games really grow on you when you play more. I'm very confident that once you purchase these games and play, you'll be happy that you've done so."

"[Knack] wasn't designed [to meet specific] review scores," Yoshida continued. "I was hoping Knack could score in the mid 70s and last I checked it's around 59-60, so I'm hoping it goes up. The game uses only three buttons to play, so it's not the type of game reviewers would score high for the launch of a next-gen system.

"The game was targeted as what we call a second purchase; you know, people may purchase PS4 for Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed or Killzone, but if they also buy Knack, this is a game that you can play with your family or your significant other."

Resogun, a side-scrolling shoot 'em up from Housemarque, is currently the highest-rated PS4 exclusive, scoring an 82 Metacritic rating.

Ryse looks bad, KI is a fighter so it will suck anyway and Forza has seen a ton of stuff stripped out.

Fighters are great :/ it's just some that are bad... KI is a dead franchise trying to catch up to modern times copying other fighters so it's just going to play off as a wanna be for anyone who's played recent fighters. Those that haven't played a single recent fighter and go straight for KI would probably fool themselves saying it's the greatest thing ever made.

Who gives a shit. If the games sells decently enough and consumers enjoy them, then that's all that really matters.

People should stop putting so much weight into reviews and just enjoy games that they like.

So in other words Sony knew Knack was going to be a mediocre rush job. Kind of a stupid move Sony. Releasing a game that is bound to fail..

I watched his stream for a bit and he was playing knack. I'd be lying if some of that didn't look like fun.

Journey uses only 1 button (apart from movement), rayman origins uses only 3 buttons (sprint, jump and punch)

Funny, when Ryse doesn't score high and Major Nelson says something like this it'll be "DC lol". I agree with his point though. Its a new launch, and its the big season for games. A lot of big releases have to be reviewed so how much time are they able to give to a game?
