Sony PlayStation 3

It's all fun and games until the battery dies. Unlike its competitors, which use replaceable AA batteries, the PS3's remote control is glued shut. When the battery goes, Sony customers have to blow $55 on a new controller. Sony says there's an "environmental benefit" since gamers don't have to toss their batteries on a regular basis, but Isidor Buchmann, president of battery-equipment maker Cadex Electronics, says captive batteries are becoming common because it's cheaper for companies to eliminate the battery housing and hatch.

I agree, as 2 of my controllers have stopped working, vs the xbox controllers, where I just buy another 6$ battery pack. But really, it's a no biggie. Just one of those small things.

Im guessing they mean that with time the battery charge decreases. The actual time needed for this to occur to a level that it would be unplayable unless corded would probably be about the duration of this generation of consoles so the entire argument seems completely ridiculous...

its likely that your controller itself will stop working before the battery does.

My word. What a ridiculous reason. It's gonna take a while before the battery dies permanently in the controller.

In the meantime, 2 of my battery housings for my 360 controllers are being held on with tape :?

Uhh batteries die over time.

Eventually the batteries in the PS3 controller will be dead and unrechargable

Travel directly to the Sony Store, buy a new controller, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars

Saying as Microsoft is now funding Yahoo through their search engine . . .I'd understand this. It would be like seeing an advertisement for the PS3 in the Zune Marketplace. That just won't happen.

Wait...that is what the USB ports are for? So...I have all 126 of those controllers for naught? Great...now I know what my family is getting for christmas.

But really...somebody probably paid them to say that. Or a fanboy of some sort works there. But...that would be pretty good for the lolz.

Um, no. The battery in my phone can be replaced. The battery in my rechargeable electric toothbrush can be replaced. The battery in my rechargeable flashlight can be replaced. The battery in my cordless house-phone can be replaced.

I would NEVER buy any product with a rechargeable battery that can't be replaced.

You can use a screwdriver on your PS3 controller and replace the battery, just like you need to do with your DS when that battery dies.

Or you could just send it to Sony and have them replace it for you.

Maybe they dont know the controller needs to be recharged?

But it is a very dumb reason not to buy a game system.

Ah see, that's better. I just did a search for "replace ps3 controller's battery" and immediately came across an instruction manual for how to do so. Someone above me just posted screenies of the same manual.

So, Yahoo is just lying about the PS3, then?

Ok, nevermind on the "shame on Sony" statement I made earlier.

Well they are tight buddies with MS. Yahoo has been known to post anti Sony and anti PS3 news. I have had my PS3 for near 2 years and the controller still works. When the battery is low, it will tell you. You just recharge it using the pS3, controller port rechargers, or heck you can use your PC.
