There were some nice things about the old policies. The primary one was being able to share your downloaded content with other people. Now that's gone. The other thing is I think single player games might have made a comeback under that model. But with the status quo in effect again I expect the huge emphasis on multiplayer and DLC to continue. And now "free to play" (I get a kick out of them calling those games that. They're actually some of the most expensive games around) is gonna end up in the mix as well, another trend I hate but it appears to be unstoppable.

Wickerman777
Leaks began to show the sharing of games was limited to hour-long demos of games, which isn't what people wanted. MS dodged a major bullet by backtracking on their policies and ending the sharing idea before actually having to explain how misleading it was and endure yet another PR blunder. Also, Free To Play games require XBL Gold. Not exactly free to play if you ask me.

[QUOTE="NFJSupreme"]i liked most of what MS was trying to do but the always online thing was stupid and unnecessary. So is making the kinect mandatory. Seems like a money grab more than anything.GOGOGOGURT

Always online does not mean "always paying for XBL gold".  And making kinect mandatory is an asset to devs and uniformity among the consoles.  It

s kinect 2.0, it's uses are much more varied than last gen.  Try looking at things 3 dimensionally, it helps.

Mandatory Kinect is the one thing I can't find a single good thing to say about. I absolutely hate, Hate, HATE it.

X1 tried to introduce various restrictions while not giving a single advantage that would justify them. If anything, it was a great leap backwards for the industry, a system that throws the concept of "plug in and play", one of the greatest console advantages, out the window...

Thought I'd post to let you know you aren't the only one that feels this way.  As soon as MS gave into the uneducated public, my heart sank.  I've been saying this since MS pulled the 180.  Where are people like you when we need them?

To be fair though, it was MS's fault that they didn't explain it better (I mean, I could do a better job) and for giving into the public.  Don't let the public dictate a plan you have confidence in.

GOGOGOGURT

The original idea for the X1 was cancer to the gaming community and only a fool would want it

It would have cured it.  Pirating and used games are the cancer of the community, and If it would've shut up people like you, it would've removed the source as well.

Hating on used games? Like I said, you are a fool. Any console that wont let me simply hand a game over to a friend can fvck off.

Why would I want to pay ~$100 for a mandatory device I don't have any use for?

Kinect 2.0 inflated the X1 cost, so if I bought the console, I'd be flushing a good chunk of that $500 down the toilet.

Maybe you don't have a problem with it but I don't like to be forced to buy and then even hook up something that I think is terrible. It's one of the worst things about Xbox One.

I think you could of still gave your friend all your games. But then that would make 2 people with nothing to play. You dont sound like a very good friend.

Do whatever you want in the toilet.  Just know that Kinect makes the X1 superior technologically (not graphically so f*ck off) to the PS4, and your paying for it.  It makes the console a better experience.

It doesn't for me, since I have no use for it. I'd be throwing money at nothing... and only a fool does that. The idea of a forced add-on inflating the cost of the system is a huge dealbreaker.

To those who like to bash Xbone for it's policies, you are foolish. You need to move on with the times and accept that always online is the future. However, because of you guys, they had to do a 180. Thanks a lot. You've slowed down any advancement in the gaming industry.

You really do need a mental reevaluation. It's only a 24 hour check in, meaning if you lose your connection you would still be able to play all your games for 24 hours until you get a connection again.

Not really. It's "hey download the game, install it, then pass me the controller bro!" It's not better. It is convenient that you don't have to bring a disc to everyone's house, but having no download time for a 10-15 gb game sure is nice.

I have no proof but my gut tells me that the fight against it was largely led by the pirate community. Always online and game codes would have made life more difficult for pirates. A lot of the people in the fight claimed to be against the policies on used games but that makes no sense to me. Ya only save $5 on used games! Used was still gonna be around, just altered. Used games wouldn't have gotten more expensive because it's IMPOSSIBLE to make them more expensive than they are now.

lol. telling the fight agaiast MS after E3 was largly ran by pirates? lol not sure if you know this pretty much EVERYONE was even the news was lol

Sure you would still be able "sale" your games to gamestop OR best buy  but, for something you would got $30 on normal day you be walking out with $15ish. So yes it would be more expensive. Now don't get me wrong i am actuely one those people who support online passes to a degree.

Always online does not mean "always paying for XBL gold".  And making kinect mandatory is an asset to devs and uniformity among the consoles.  It

s kinect 2.0, it's uses are much more varied than last gen.  Try looking at things 3 dimensionally, it helps.

GOGOGOGURT

Mandatory Kinect is the one thing I can't find a single good thing to say about. I absolutely hate, Hate, HATE it.

I don't get it.  It doesn't negatively affect you at all.  It just seems spoiled when people say that.

It's not that kinect is a bad thing.  It's not.  It's that it is not needed for gaming and only drives up the cost of the system.  I'm not saying do away with kinect 2.0 I'm saying do away with making it mandatory.  Let the consumer decide if they need it or not.  That is ultimately the core problem with the Xbone. When just looking at the hardware it's a fine machine.  The problem is MS is playing "daddy knows best" with all its restrictions and requirements.   Especially when first announced.  Even after they did the right thing and got rid of always online it's still a very restrictive device with things being forced upon that you might not necessarily want or need.  You still need to have a kinect connected for it to work.  You still can't upgrade the HDD yourself.  No bluetooth kinectivity so you have to use whatever headsets MS aproves.  Still don't know exactly how used games works on the system whether it's still restrictive or not.

All these things might not turn everyone away but each thing turns people away.   To me I see now value in the kinect right away and don't want to pay extra for it.  I have no choice witht the xbone because "daddy know's best."   I would like to upgrade the 500GB drive to a 1TB drive that costs about $100 but I can't do that on the Xbone because "daddy know's best."  I get it that a console is a complete package but things like this including the higher price for lesser hardware is the reason why I'm going PS4 first.  It's the more open console.  Not as many restrictions.

MS needs to get rid of the whole we and only we know what is best for the consumer attitude and give the consumer some more options and choices with their device.  If they do that people will flock to them.  They have the better launch line up imo, they have the better online service and the new TV intergration stuff is actually a huge plus regardless of what cows say, and the whole skype multi-tasking thing is also a great feature.  They just need to realize that consumers like choices and the more choices you give them the more likely they are to buy your products.

[QUOTE="Capitan_Kid"] Hating on used games? Like I said, you are a fool. Any console that wont let me simply hand a game over to a friend can fvck off. Rocker6

You could've shared.  And if you went over to his house then you could've signed into your account and accessed you libary of games.  Honestly it's better.

Wasn't that sharing idea just a one hour demo, or something?

No. MS have said it was as described. They will roll it out eventually and we'll all get to see it.

How so?  Because the NSA is watching you eat crisps and rub on off to Rumble Roses XX?  If that's your reason, then that's your problem as well.

GOGOGOGURT

Because flailing your body around to play a game or talking to your TV when you can just as easily (Actually, more easily) press a button is DUMB.

Okay then do that.  I like the voice commands, and you only flail around when you play casual trash like kinectimals or just dance or star wars dance *shudder*

Y'know, there's plenty of gamers already having the problem of their girlfriends hating that they spend time playing. Now throw in flailing around and talking to the freaking TV and they're really gonna think their bfs are off their rockers.

It's just "pass me the controller, bro!" there is no disc.

If you really think publishers are going to let you buy a game for $60, and give it to 10 people ($600 worth of sales) who can play it without any limitations at all, you're delusional. It was going to be a demo, but when they backtracked on the policies so they nixed the whole plan and just threw their arms up and said "welp! You guys missed out!" They gain nothing by saying what it really was, but avoid a PR disaster by not confirming the leaks about the share plan.

Don't be such a sheep. I wouldn't trust MS to tell you the truth about the original sharing policy now that they kowtowed to consumer demands.

Where?

I'm only aware of this:

He then goes on to detail a Family Sharing feature of the Xbox One that has been scrapped due to the change in policies. The feature would have allowed Xbox One owners to share their game libraries with other family members, regardless of their location. However, the engineer reveals that Family Sharing would only let family members access a "demo mode" of the game for between 15 mins and 45 mins, and in some cases an hour. After that time, the shared game would cease and a user would be forwarded to a marketplace to purchase the full game.

http://www.theverge.com/2013/6/21/4451172/xbox-engineer-disappointed-pastebin-note-rumored-features

Not the most credible source, I know, but I haven't heard anything about MS allowing the sharing of the full game with those "Family Members."

Actually the only thing M$ did with their 180 was piss off the people who liked the idea of DRM and going digital. Everyone who wasn't gonna buy a Xbone before that still won't. Such a bad console.

NathanDrakeSwag

Actually no, I pre-ordered one after they announced the policy reversals. I'm still getting a PS4, that never changed (and if I could only choose one I would also choose the PS4). But I usually get all the platforms and have been for the last 2 gens. But with the policies MS was going to put into place I wasn't going to get one, but since they removed the only reason keeping me from getting it, I can now go ahead. And the xbox one's preorders have increased since the the reversal showing that many people felt the same way, and now that it's gone are going to get it.

It would have cured it.  Pirating and used games are the cancer of the community, and If it would've shut up people like you, it would've removed the source as well.

Didn't present a solution so much as a good concept.  Lower the price and put the software on a cloud?  That's not a solution to piracy, it's a solution to more customers.

Jesus Christ you are dumb. One of the reasons people pirate is because they can't afford to buy it. Yes its a shitty reason but its still a reason. Adobe have finally wised up to the notion that making an enemy out of your customers is wrong and the way to get those pirates to start paying for your software is to lower the price. Having a DRM riddled X1 would not only kill off any innovation but also drive more people to either pirate the games (it will be pretty easy as both machines are X86) to go to Sony and the PS4.

What the f***?O_o

Good luck getting an older game when they don't sell them at stores or even digitally anymore.

You just answered your own question.

Every console game would have to be sold digitally forever to make up for it and you better hope the companies keep them alive. Certain games can be taken off as well.

I don't get why people need DRM for something to be digital only? You can still buy all your games digital PEOPLE!!, and keep this in mind, they would not have the sales steam has. In fact many devs would want to have  you buy digital so you couldn't trade it in. So if the option of a Physical copy isn't going to make them make the digital version cheaper, then have PURE digital is definately not going to make them do it. And the Family Share plan, you do not know the full details on it, but from what I heard it could also be the biggest pain and something I would never use. So say you could "lend" 10 friends your games, from what I gathered only one person could play it at a time, so say I decided one day I want to play some Forza 5, but Jimmy is currently playing it. I gotta ask him to stop and get off so I can play it. Also, there were many rumores floating around that it would just be a timed demo. So you really don't quite know what the Family Plan was as they never went into much detail about it.

Essentially, I'm glad were "holding back" the industry, because I don't want everything going pure digital. I'm fine with a digital purchase that was super heavily discounted, or given to me for essentially free (like games on PSN+). But for full games that I pay 50-60 bucks for, I want a disc copy and I also want the liberty to play my games without being attatched to the internet, because thats not always possible to be online (either different rooms with bad signals, didn't feel like having my wallet drained for the interent at that time, or just not at home. and being pure digital does not mean that I have to be connected all the time, because I do have Digital purchases on the Vita and it's hardly ever online when I'm actually playing it, now wouldn't it suck if I had to be online to play all my Digital Vita games!!

To those who like to bash Xbone for it's policies, you are foolish. You need to move on with the times and accept that always online is the future. However, because of you guys, they had to do a 180. Thanks a lot. You've slowed down any advancement in the gaming industry.

At least Microwin were trying to make a change, Sony did nothing new.

I know you all secretly agree but you're too scared to admit it.

How can you always be online if you lose your internet connection for any of a zillion reasons?

The first time you are sitting down to play your console game and your ISP goes offline for some reason you're gonna be flipping mad when you can't play any of your games.

You really do need a mental reevaluation. It's only a 24 hour check in, meaning if you lose your connection you would still be able to play all your games for 24 hours until you get a connection again.

What happens if my net is out for more than 24 hours? I'm denied access to the content I'm paying for.

Console piracy is actually much harder than PC piracy too. The majority of piracy is on the PC, not Xbox 360 or PS3, and thus implementing PC style DRM on consoles was not a method to control piracy, but control used games. The Xbox One was a love letter to publishers, but consumers rightly rejected those policies and Microsoft was forced to change otherwise the system would have been a failure out of the gate with cheaper, DRMless options in the PS4 and WiiU.

Why can't you see that consoles can't go this way? People everywhere don't have reliable internet. You can't really think the fundemental thing that has always been there for consoles that work without any internet connection? People still play singleplayer games on PS2 or older consoles. It's not the way to go and people spoke with their money

We never got to understand the benefits(if there was any) of MS's orginial plans. People saw red at "24-hour online check-in" & "used games restrictions".

What bothers me is that from reading hundreds of comments online in the past few months, I believe that most people who complained about this were never going to buy an X1 anyways, they just used the opportunity to bash MS.

But in the end, it was likely what Sony did at E3 that forced MS(indirectly) to reverse their policies. Sony could not resist the free publicity, and all they could care about is making their investors happy & re-gaining the lead in the console war. I cannot believe people actually think that Sony did this because they care about their customers......they did it because it was an irresistible business decision, nothing more. Perhaps they should release another instructional video on how to lend games to your friends, while MS keeps showing us more details about their great launch lineup. I'll get a PS4 too, once a must-have exclusive is revealed....so far I'm not impressed at all.

In the end, as long as some people truly benefited from this 180 move, then I guess it was worth it. I wouldn't want some people living in remote areas, without internet access, to miss out on the X1 just because of the 24-hour check in. I'm just glad that the X1 will have all games digital on launch. No more waiting in 20 min lineups behind people who trade-in half their game library for a few measly bucks.
