Xbox 360 gets keyboard controller

While Microsoft's Xbox 360 Spring Update will integrate Windows Live Messenger into the system's dashboard for cross-platform chatting, the machine's text-window interface for standard control pads makes lengthy conversations a chore.

To ease the task of typing in messages without the aid of a full-sized keyboard, Microsoft today announced a new text input device for the Xbox 360 controller. The attachment snaps onto the bottom of the controller through the headset jack and features a QWERTY-style key layout with 47 keys.

The keyboard attachment has not been priced or even named yet, but it is expected to see release this summer.

I think that mini-keyboard on the Xbox 360 is a lot cooler though, it's an add-on. Sweet. Anyone remember this?

Well the next spring update for the 360 will allow users to chat with their msn contacts...so it would be pretty stupid for MS to NOT make something like this.  It's not like you would leave this in during gameplay, so I think all of the "comfort" concearns are blown pretty out of proportion. 

And in the end, if you don't want it, don't get it...it's as simplea s that.  That's the beauty of options.

Online adapter came out for it. Only two games used it thus it was incredibly hard to find

That thing is incredibly stupid. Why not just support a regular USB keyboard? The buttons on that thing are TINY.OceanLeet

You know I was thinking that that little hole in the bottom of the keyboard was a spot for a new type of headphone but now that I look at it more closely I think it is for a mouse.

PC users upset about how the mouse and kyeb oard woirk better than a consoile controller? All you need to do is snap this in and you'll have your own console mouse and controller. I just hope that there is still a spot to snap in your headphones as well.
