Let me set a precidence here...

Every nextgen gamer makes it a priority have money for their game console. At $60 a game neither system is cheap.

Now lets get down to the niddy griddy.

1. Xbox 360 owners now spend at least $200 for their game console.

2. To get wifi they will spend another $100 for the hardware from microsoft. (note: that is the retail price. you can probably get the component cheaper on ebay but I'd bet that the majority of sales of that compenent are purchased at retail from microsoft) I'm sure there are a few of you out there that don't have the wifi component. That said, I'm sure, if given the choice, all of you would rather have it.

3. How many of you have bought a computer or laptop since you bought your 360? A good laptop of desktop is going to run you about $750. Where am I going with this? Well, if you didn't already know, PS3 owners have the ability to run Ubuntu Linux on their PS3. So long as your not into image software Linux on PS3 will have all the computing power you will need. I currently use open office for all my office needs and firefox for browsing.

4. Now let's talk about the BluRay player. For a decent one your talking another $300. By the way, saying that your not that into bluray's is like saying that you'd rather watch cable tv then HD on a satalite.

5. Xbox live costs $50 a year. Lets say that the 360 some how makes it 10 years. That's another $500. I admit that points one through four can be debatable given that one doesn't NEED wifi, a computer, or a bluray player. That said, you can't get around point number 5. The undisputable truth is that by the time a the next console comes out you will have $700 for your Xbox 360 ALONE! Is a 20GB Xbox 360 worth $700?

360 = $200

Wifi = $100

Computer = $750

BluRay = $300

Live = $500

Total = $1,850

The question people need to be asking themselves is not "is the PS3 worth $440, (add $40 for a wireless keyboard and mouse for Linux)" but "is the 360 worth $1,850?"Let's also note that the standard harddrive the for $400 PS3 is 4 times bigger than the standard hard drive on the $200 Xbox 360.

O good god no. The assault on my brain is too much. It's simple. 180 euro for an XBOX 360. NOTHING MORE. No you don't need Live, or keyboards or computers or TVs or speakers or a billion games. 180 euro. That is all. Stop talking utter *****.

Are you going to include the car I drive it home in as well? And if you insist upon lumping in a computer, at least be honest and use a cheap netbook.

lol what?!?! Well first Blue-Ray's are around $180-190 retail, second why add Live up to ten years when it's only been out for about 4 (plus it's $40 now). I'm not really sure about why you've added a laptop, even though I read your description, to be counted as saying a 360 costs that much? I kind-of smell fake-boy trash for most of this.

You need a house to play games on too. OMG the 360 can costs HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of dollars!!! :cry: :cry:

Also:

yea shotguns kick...but still the recoil in games in unrealistic.
your shoulder just moves back alittle when shooting shotgun, after shooting alot of rounds ur shoulder and trigger finger will hurt lol the recoil will hurt it finger pulling trigger espescially if you use a double barrel and pull both trigger sametime i done it lol i have shot down trees before not small ones either a good 30 ft or so high.
yowtfyowtfyo

You forgot to include the price of the furniture you need to sit on when playing the 360... and why did you not include the price of the food you eat while playing, along with the cost of the clothes you are wearing when you in front of your 360?

tsep23
What about the Phd you need to afford the PS3? That's gotta be at least 50,000. Oh, and you aren't going to walk, so add another 50,000(because you have to drive a nice car and if you're getting a PS3 you obviously spend more money than you need to), let's not forget insurance and gas, nor the house you need to actually store the console in.

Let's take out the PC for second, now you only have a CRT TV, which is obviously not going to do. You go to Best Buy or Future Shop and buy a HDTV, at the least would cost you $500-1500, depending on the size and the picture quality you want. Wait, you also need to get HDMI cables to get the best quality picture as well. HDMI cables aren't cheap, around $50 is reasonable. 360=$200 (or $300 if you want Pro Edition) Wifi=$100 HDTV+HDMI cables= $550-1550 Bluray= $300 Live= $500 Total= $1650 minumun Oh wait, and I forgot about surround sound as well, but that's optional.

i remember paying more for my original PS2 and xbox.

"Well first Blue-Ray's are around $180-190 retail"

Not all bluray players are the same. $200 bluray players can't connect to the web and update their firmware. Meaning that you will have movies that you wont be able to play.

"second why add Live up to ten years when it's only been out for about 4 (plus it's $40 now)."

I am stating a total amount one will spend by the time the lifespan of the console is over assuming one bought the machine year 1. Even still, 4 years of Xbox live on a 20GB Xbox 360 will cost you $400. Ask yourself this, would you buy a 20GB 360 over an 80GB PS3 if they were both $400?

"I'm not really sure about why you've added a laptop, even though I read your description, to be counted as saying a 360 costs that much? I kind-of smell fake-boy trash for most of this."

I don't get your question here. My point about the laptop is that the PS3 itself can be used as a computer. There is no need to buy a computer if you own a PS3. (unless you use image editing software)

My point is that everyone argues that the 360 is cheaper than the PS3. I'm simply pointing out that is NOT the case. And for game reviewers like G4, or anyone else for that matter, to be saying otherwise is pure misleading propaganda.

Lets take your argument and one-up the stupid factor, If you want a PS3 you better add in the price for the HDTV that can do 1080p and the HDMI cable and the 7.1 surround sound and the optical cable for that too. Now how much is the PS3? See, I can come up with crap that is not important too. :o

It IS. $200 is less than $400, FACT. Anything else you say falls in the territory of subjectivity.

My point is that everyone argues that the 360 is cheaper than the PS3. I'm simply pointing out that is NOT the case. And for game reviewers like G4, or anyone else for that matter, to be saying otherwise is pure misleading propaganda.

i actually thought u were being lenient on the labtop price, i mean, who buys a 700 dollar labtop, u at least dish out 1.2-1.5 g's for a nice one....so if i were to redo the price i would bumb it well over 2000 dollars

T-Aldous

Yeah that's all very well, but what about when you get a console failure, which is 100% bound to happen? That means adding an extra 300 on to the price of the 360 :|.

You lost everything when you claimed that a PS3 is anywhere near comparable to a PC in terms of usefulness.

And I'm running a dual-boot of Windows Vista and Fedora, with some fairy dust thrown in for good measure. Do you honestly think that we care about what build of Linux you're running on your PS3?

I have had the RROD twice now and I have never had to buy a new one or pay a penny. Now if my 60 gig Ps3 dies then I have to pay. Your argument does not hold any water there.

Sorry man... I just got really worked up today over some articles on G4. I'm tired of all the "The PS3 cost too much" BS. I love G4 but sometimes I feel like I'm watching FoxNews or CNN an election year. The truth is that the 360 costs way more than the PS3. There's no way around it.

[QUOTE="mitu123"][QUOTE="IronBass"]What is with the sudden massive attack of PS3 fanboys? :?IronBass
They got 2 AAAEs this year so far, lots of games coming, a chance of a PS3 price drop, and they won't stop anytime soon.

I don't know why, but I never got the impression that 360 fanboys were this annoying.

Yeah, I think Lems are smarter than Cows, I blame Gamespot for taking so long to give more than one AAAE to the PS3 in a year, LOL, that might be true.

It makes Vista work perfectly and Fedora magically not necessitate any code-work. Point was that bringing in what OS(s) we're running is kinda stupid.
