I was reading as such and what will come after them?

Why the **** would be those the last consoles when grahpic upgrades and companies wants money... Its same if you asked will be these 2013 movies last movies ever? or will they stop making mobiles now...
MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY
AS LONG IT MAKES MONEY, AS LONG THEY MAKE CONSOLES.
No, but the PS4 might very well be my last console. By the time the PS5 releases, my youngest kid will be on her own as well, so no kids in the house. I will more than likely stick to PC only after this get. Only time will tell.
@FreedomFreeLife: Because technology like streaming games directly through smart TV's means that console hardware will probably become obsolete.
your traditional console- good chance yes. by 2020 I could easily see ms and sony going th route of selling little boxes the size of rukos. once they both get cloud gaming down they just go the route of an app on t.vs, blueray player's, and anything else they can get their hands on
@farrell2k: so how did we go from 3B to 7 billion? Even then original xbox was where all the money went, the 360 was profitable.
PS5 is all but confirmed. Might not be made purely to sell as a console but of a way to drive 4K TV's in the same way the PS360 did for HD TV's.

Why are you typing like this? Did you not get your protein this morning?

Maybe. The PS360 didn't even do 1080p, and I really doubt if many games released later this gen on the PS4 do 1080p, either. It seems like consoles that push 4K tvs would be a pretty large leap.
I wouldn't rule it out, as I definitely don't think console gaming can last forever in this ever-changing market. But I think its more likely that console gaming will start to decline in the next few years(when the novelty of PS4/X1 starts to wear off), and that the PS5/Next Xbox could flop hard and potentially be the last gen of consoles.
@Celtic_34: No, we'll always have consoles.
I think there's a greater chance of the Wii U being Nintendo's last conventional home console. The 4DS might have an HDMI output which could turn it into a hybrid mobile home console of sorts.
We'll always have consoles but what they'll look like and what they can do will definitely be a lot different in the years to come. Who ever would have thought we'd have a system where you can plug your cable box into it and that can act as a universal remote controller for your TV and speakers? That's pretty awesome.
Personally....yeah, I think so.
It really depends a lot on how much worldwide internet connection speeds improve in the next 8 years. If we get Google Fiber level speeds, then I think you'll start to see service boxes from companies like Sony and Microsoft--boxes that stream games from a centralized server onto your television screen. Everything is rendered on their servers and transmitted to the small service box. I think you'll see massive Microsoft servers decked out with Nvidia Grid solutions (or AMD if they have similar capabilities). These servers will be periodically upgraded by the companies whenever new server-side GPUs come out. You'll pay for the streaming service and the games. It'll lead to some pretty crazy graphics given that you'll be getting PC level upgradability (hopefully), but with a console like hardware standard.
