I think it has the potential to, it makes me feel sick when a non-game like Wii fit outsells a B movie wannabe like MGS4.OhyeasFixed
[QUOTE="hakanakumono"]No, because developers don't take it seriously anyways. Bigboi500Keep telling yourself that if it makes you happy. Devs take Wii more serious than PS3 these days. Dragon Quest X anyone? Tales of Ten?
That's 2 games, good job.
The problem is with these gimmick games that sell huge and cost next to nothing to develop. There is now much more incentive for devs to try and make these crappy gimmick games that might sell huge, than to make quality games that take millions of dollars, years to develop, and still have a chance of tanking.

See, these games don't sell well. Give me ten shovelware games that sold over one million.
No nintendo and it's wii can't touch pc gaming. However you can say hardcore gaming on console will be dead. It will be about features this time around for consoles. That is after the ression if micro soft and sony make out of the ression. With Sony and Microsoft acknowledging the sucess of the Wii, and already positioning themselfves to compete for the casual audience, are us hardcore gamers who love a cutting edge hifi blockbuster videogame experience fudged?

your real hardcore gamers will be on the pc as always. Unless something better comes along.

Why thank you. Two very good and precious games as far a Japan is concerned. Sony would sell their souls to the devil for those two games because they know they will sell millions and millions of consoles in Japan alone. No, because developers don't take it seriously anyways. hakanakumono
Here.
I understand that the Wii's 09 lineup doesn't appeal to you, but how is this "developers not taking it seriously"?
As far as consoles go, i think they will try to be more casual, but pc will always have room for the hardcore niche :)paullywogpc gaming is not a niche it's a jugernut!
For the contrary, it won't ruin the industry. This is how I see it:
1. Videogame companies pleased more the gamers, core gamers and hardcore gamers.
2. The industry is becoming saturated with hardcore-appealing games, limiting the market's growth.
3. Some company (in this case Nintendo) comes up with a system loaded up with games appealing casual players and non-gamers.
4. Such aforementioned console is a huge sales hit, enriching the company that launched it.
5. Many of those newcomers to the videogame industry will become gamers, thus increasing the core market.
6. Core market becomes profitable again, thus balancing the gaming industry.
If Nintendo goes for the 8th generation with its current approach, it isn't so bad. If that trend keeps on the 9th gen, maybe we lost the former Nintendo.
The only thing that could ruin the gaming industry is the hardcore gamer. If they stop buying games then its ruined, simple. Also, the wii has a huge amount of hardcore games what i think your scared of is developers supporting it more than the 360/PS3 thus having a gen with bad graphics. As much as cows, sheep and lemmings try to deny it, all the hate is because the wii has bad graphics and the casual thing is just to cover it. Thats why when hardcore games such as DQX and tales of 10 get announced, it gets bashed more than praised.
Just a quick summary, the fear is not casuals ruining the industry, casual games have existed since the dawn of video games. Its the fear of the dominant console being similar to power with last gen consoles even if it has all the hardcore games. The fear of lack of progression.
i dont think its important to the degree that its gonna change the industry
its just an expensive game boy
Well following your logic, the Playstation 3 is just an expensive Playstation 1. And the Xbox 360 is only an overpriced Xbox. And we should be worried hardware failures such as the RRoD become a common trend in the following generations of gaming. Seeing as how the 360 managed to sell so much with faulty hardware. And also, from what I've seen, 'Hardcore' games are gore-fests and shooters. Well I prefer more variety in games. No, because developers don't take it seriously anyways. hakanakumono
Riiiiiiiggghhhttt, because it's not a Sony platform, I'm guessing.
Dude, this is getting old...

Consoles, by nature, are casual and have always been...

I also remember me enjoying it. God, I'm such an idiot *throws the GAME out the window*

No, because they don't take it seriously. And it is getting old. The wii does deserve more high quality titles. Shame on developers for treating it the way they do. And shame on nintendo for encouraging them.
The wii can't ruin the industry for anyone.
look at the support as a whole for the console and then tell me hardcore gamers are truely missing out on what they wanted in the first place. I'm more confused about how the supposed hardcore gamers who don't play wii games and call its line up crap are scared that their beloved games are going to die off. Were these games you were playing not hardcore enough to survive against the pathetic wii? As far as I'm concerned every single person that buys a game is helping the industry. Developers and companies are the only ones who can ruin the industry because they determine the games that go to each system.
People view the industry the wrong way. They imagine it as a tiled floor, with hardcore tiles and casual tiles, and if a company steals some of the tiles that another is standing on, they can just hop to another tile.
The reality is that the market is more like a ladder. While companies like Microsoft and Sony battle for the top few rungs, Nintendo started at the bottom with the Wii, and is steadily climbing up, leaving the other companies with only one direction to retreat.
In the meantime, 3rd parties are seeing Nintendo and thinking... hmm, they're right at the floor, and they're doing well... and subsequently hurl themselves to the floor below, creating a messy splat instead of a steady start.
If you were a real gamer you would realize the the PS3, 360, and wii are not even remotely hardcore. The title hardcore DIED when these next gen consoles were released the only remotely hardcore game i've played this year was ninja gaiden II. Go back to the NES and SNES days and you'll realize that hardcore is dead.DivinitySkateWhat's your definition of hardcore? Difficult games?
the only you forgot is who is the head of the food chain, it's not consoles it's the pc. the console game devs are trying to survie in the wrong places lolPeople view the industry the wrong way. Well long for starters most games now can be beaten in less then a day old games such as contra could be attempted to but the mass amounts of times you die and the forgotten "Game Over" is now lost. Also games with a challenge i mean i beat call of duty WaW and gears 2 without as much as a ounce of frustration hardcore games should be driving you mad from constant failure.
