Will Rare ever make an AAAE game again?

After playing Rare Replay I realize how special Rare used to be. Then I did some research on the games they made post MS acquisition and they weren't nearly as good. It seems like the old Rare people are gone. The new Pirates game looks alright - but does SW really have faith in Rare to make another classic? I ask you guys because you're my mentors.

I dunno man, the Pirate game seems more fun than any PS4 title.

That all depends on Microsoft and Rare if they will be great again. I hope so, but I'm cautiously optimistic. Most of their talent that made them great are in other studios now. Here's to hoping they can return to form.

Depends. Ask yourself this are you truely blown away by how fun the games are or are you blown away by the nostalgia factor it makes you feel like a kid again? Becuase Rare did make Kameo: Elements of Power and Viva Pinata which had that RARE feel.

Rare was split up. I have a feeling the team doing Yooka Laylee has the better talent.

Not sure. I don't know how the Viva games rated but I know they were pretty solid. Just depends how MS views them. They were given the chance with two launch titles on the 360 that were okay. Couple more games mid gen and finished off the Kinect crap sadly. This pirates game looks interesting...just gotta wait for some more info.

Nuts and Bolts is just fun (screw the haters), and Kameo was a damn great launch game for the 360. I also played the shit out of the Viva Piñata demo (although I admittedly never bought the game). It's one I'm really looking forward to playing when I pick up Rare Replay.

There's still talent at Rare. Even if they don't hit AAA for a little while, I still think they're capable of quality work when given the chance.

Rare may be missing their former employees but still have all the support in the world. Microsoft has turned them loose again. We will see if The Pirates of Penzance shuts everyone's skepticism down.

I'm not sure how anyone can have any faith in Rare after both the Perfect Dark and Banjo Kazooie teams left ages ago.

Free Radical has been relegated to making Crysis multiplayer and the Banjo vets are making their own game.

Why not support the developers themselves rather than put faith in the shell of the company?

I don't understand, you did research on the xbox Rare Games? Why not just play them and decide for yourself if they aren't very good? Nuts n Bolts is a fun game, the Viva Pinatas and Kameo are as well. Did you play them TC?

Microsoft could always hire new credible talent. Contrary to popular belief Rare has made some good games under their Microsoft including Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero (which was still decent) and both Viva Pinata games, I don't know if they can be an AAA developer but a solid AA developer seems plausible

I'm not saying they aren't very good, just not same caliber as pre Microsoft era.

I hate to say this but Rare hasn't been the same since they left from Nintendo. Rare Replay kinda shows that since a majority of the greats they did like Banjo, Perfect Dark, Killer Instinct Gold, Jet Force Gemini were all Nintendo games. I hope the new Pirate game turns it around for them though.

Anyway as far as them making another "AAAE" probably no, and they don't necessarily need to. Being a developer that makes consistent good games isn't something to be frowned upon, Microsoft just needs to be willing to retool that studio with some talent.

I liked the games on 360 that I mentioned. I never played the N64 and older games. I didn't grow up a Nintendo kid, Sega was where I played. So they have been fun to play.

I hope so, but isn't the true Rare now Playtonic? I expect Playtonic to put out a AAA game, not sure on Rare though. Sea of Thieves could turn out good, but it looks like it may go down the path of f2p like Fable Legends. Not saying it is a bad thing, but I'm not sure how the MMO elements will work. If they have big crew battles where a crew controls a ship and it's cannons against an opposing team, it could be cool, but I'm being skeptical about it right now. This is the first time Rare has been allowed to make a game they actually wanted to make in years so I hope they prove themselves as a worthy successor to the name Rare.
