Will Nintendo ever free themselves from this circular rut?

Will Nintendo ever free themselves from being an "in between" platform?We all remember the NES, SNES, N64, and Gamecube. When each Nintendo console had the most cutting edge hardware available on the market.

Given all the NX rumors, its all but cemented in stone the fact that the NX is either coming out next year, or the year after that. All evidence we currently have points to the NX releasing sooner, rather than later. With the Wii, Wii U, and now the NX, this makes the 3rd console gen in a row where Nintendo has a console with hardware "in between" generations, no doubt being forced to do so, to repair/regain gamer mindshare.

Do you think Nindendo will ever pull themselves out of this defeating cycle, that, by their own actions and through noone elses, they've spun themselves into? Do you think that the NX releasing sooner rather than waiting until at least 2018, Nintendo is in danger of continuing the cycle rather than breaking it, and repeating the Wii/Wii U?

Not when the company is run by people other than 50 - 60+ year old programmers who are more interested in releasing products they want to play, instead of ones consumers want.

Isn't it pointless for console makers to make the most powerful expensive console they can when the technology will be old in 6 months, and developers will always try to exceed the hardware limits and make slow but pretty games? At least first party Nintendo games play well and are fun.

replace the executives making dumb decisions. and have someone who knows what non ninty fanboys want in a console.

All I'm saying is that Nintendo's greatest enemy has always been themselves. They got lucky with the Wii, real lucky, but their unrivaled arrogance doesn't let them learn from their mistakes.

NX will be in a tough spot. If its more powerful than X1/PS4, will 3rd part publishers tale advantage of that and make games for it? Then the new MS/Sony consoles will come and more than likely be more powerful than NX and publishers will flock to them to make games for them and leave NX out like they have for pretty much 2 gens now.

Is the immense success of the Wii and DS part of this "rut" of yours?

@Blabadon: Still working through my backlog, not to mention I don't pay full price for most games these days. I'm playing the new Wolfenstein and Bioshock Infinite which I downloaded free GWG a while back.
