I got my copy and am enjoying the single player so far. Figured I'd get used to everything before going into multiplayer. I played the original but it didn't catch on with me. This looks like a good start though, What about you, SW? Are you playing? Any interest?

I am playing it.

The campaign is greatly improved and the levels get more creative and better the further the game gets.

Salmon run is so much fun. I can't wait to try it with friends instead of randoms.

I'm not a huge fan of the new maps or specials on the game. The original had better maps and specials imo. In fact some of the specials are totally useless.

I have mostly been playing the multiplayer. Haven't tried the single player yet so can't comment on that. Salmon Run has been an absolute blast. I could see it being even better with a group of people you know instead of randoms.

Overall I think Splatoon 2 will easily be my most played game on the Switch this year.

Agreed. The stress tests/beta tests did not sell this game like I thought it would. Game is flat out amazing and addictive as hell.

@wiiboxstation: I actually like that they toned down the Specials. Some of the Specials were downright unstoppable in the first game. Now most of them seem more like niche / strategic uses which I find much more enjoyable.

Played it yesterday, had the same feeling as I did with the first one. Is fun at first but doesn't have very long lasting appeal to me.

I'm really enjoying it...which is surprising, since I've avoided online shooters for many years.

I never played the first one, so I'm still finding my feet with all of the weapons. Some seem totally useless (the bucket), and some I find incredibly unreliable (the air MG?). Maybe I should play more of the tutorials?

Does the basic online (not the ranked nor league ones) ever offer anything beyond the turf war variety?

Can anyone fill me in on the single player this time? Better than the first?

I've done online multiplayer the past couple days. Yet to start the single player or check out Salmon Run.

It's been so long since I played the first game, so still trying to unrust a bit, but I'm enjoying it. So far I really like the splashdown special.

Unfortunately I'm not really a fan of any of the specials this time around. They have certainly been weakened imo and just aren't as useful as they used to be for some of my favorite weapons. I think that's kind of a good thing though because I always thought the specials were pretty wild back in the first game anyways. Now instead of relying on specials to turn things around at times its down even more to skill and teamwork.

I needed to unrust too. It's been awhile since I played Splatoon. The motion controls is a bit different in this new game since you have to move the whole screen to aim now which means you have to shift sight more often. Getting used to it now and doing fairly well.

I bought it, I did not own or play the first game so this was a big plunge for me, I'm normally crap at multiplayer games so don't enjoy them, but this game is so much fun, I'm not too bad at it and mostly get in the top 2 on every match. I get a long string of team losses which is annoying but then there are times when I'll be in a winning team 3-4 matches in a row, so it keeps me addicted for that next win, because winning in this game feels so amazing.

I'd love to play with you guys, especially in Salmon Run but time zones I guess aren't too friendly to me here.

The game is amazing.

@sailor232: Yeah, this is one of those rare games were its even fun to lose. Thats whats so awesome with Nintendo's online, the whole world can play online together since the game doesnt rely on voice to enjoy. So you can play with Japanese people from Japan since you work night-shift etc.

Yeah I'm playing it never having played the first game on my WiiU

I'm digging the campaign so far and the tutorial for Salmon run shows some really promising stuff.

I'm not too hot on turf war so far or the fact that they have weapons blocked off or gear that effects stats. Is there a ranked mode that evens the playing field for competitive play?

90% of the time I am playing with Japanese people, it's very common for me to be the only English name on the list. I do love how points are still given for losing, I think ranked is different but if I lose too many times in a row on one mode I then go to another one and the game is instantly fresh again.

I only use voice chat with people I know IRL, well I'd make an exception for System Wars (though I'd be shy at first) as I know a lot of people that post here are in my age bracket (I'm 36) so are more respectful of people and life. One day when I stay up extra late I'll play with you guys.

Thats the problem with all sort of multiplayer games. How theyll do in the long run rather than first months or first year. Great multiplayer games seems to keep their original base let alone add more people each year, thru time.

Some fine examples of Mp games that managed to get bigger population wise thru time --> Diablo2 // Path of Exile // Counter Strike Go // League of Legends // Team Fortress 2 // Hearthstone

I have it, but while it's still fun, I'm not entirely happy with my purchase. I feel like I'm playing Splatoon 1.5 rather than Splatoon 2.

While the campaign has different levels, it still feels too much like the same game I've already played. You have the same setup, the same objective, even the same Final boss. It just felt like I was replaying an old game, not experiencing a new one for the first time, and it got a little tedious.

MP has the same issues. It's the same set up, the same game types, the same annoying restrictions that hold you back from playing how you want and what you want. The new weapons are interesting, but far from enough to make the game feel new. It also doesn't help that a fair chunk of the maps are returning ones. Sure they have some changes to them that improve the QoL, but they don't do anything close to enough to make them feel new again.

Salmon Run is by far the most fun part of the game, and that is straight up because I've not played it before. I've played similar Horde modes, such as Gears and Mass Effect, but this is still a great and unique take on it.

The game is amazing for anyone who didn't play the original, but It's funny that a game that constantly talks about "staying fresh", released in a rather stale state for those of us who played the first. It just feels more like Splatoon Deluxe, than a true Splatoon 2.

I think I'm going to miss the ship. My backlog is insane and I'm still grinding to 100% Breath of the Wild.
