Which was the best action-adventure game of last gen?

There were just too many awesome moments in this game. Shooting in a building that's about to topple. Running and gunning on top of a train. Jumping from ledge to ledge while the ground is about to break. This game rocked. How about you, SW??

Assassin's Creed II is my favorite. The first and last time the franchise hit true greatness.

That section from Uncharted 2 was amazing.

There are no other developers who are able to combine Naughty Dog's:

1. Movie quality scripts and acting

2. Graphics and animation

3. Seamless mix of raw action and storytelling

There are a ton but I'll throw this one out because it isn't a nuke you get after a kill streak.

So much so, I bought and (nearly) completed three different copies of the game (360, PS3 and PC). Chance are, I may even buy the Wii U version eventually.

Uncharted 2 is barely even action-adventure really. It's a linear TPS with platforming segments. No adventuring whatsoever. No sidequests or exploration at all.

It's not action adventure, though, it's an RPG.

What is made up about it? The genre has existed and been generally accepted as a mainstream genre, ever since the original Legend of Zelda on the NES; it's a thing. The only criticism I could level against it (and if that's what you were trying to do, then I agree with you) is that it's very loosely defined to the extent that Uncharted, GTA, and Zelda can all somehow be considered part of the same genre.

Thats a Third Person Shooter. Oh don't get me wrong it does have adventure elements but they absolute trash.... Luckily they were few and far between. Hence why its 3rd Person Shooter.

As much as I liked Uncharted 2 and 3 and Halo 4, I've got to go with a game I played years after its release. Played it after uncharted wrapped up--Super Mario Galaxy was just in a whole different stratosphere.

As much as I want to play the next Batman, I kinda agree. I don't really get why people loved that game so much.

Ehh 4 was great too but I agree.

4 was great in spite of being Assassin's Creed. 2 was great because it was Assassin's Creed.

I enjoyed Arkham City quite a lot, but I enjoyed UC2 a smidge more.

I'm gonna have to agree with you. Fantastic game that clicked on all levels. Also helped that it was such a vast improvement over the first one.

@SolidGame_basic: Uncharted is an amazing series, but I thought UC2 was too similar to UC1 when it comes to the story. The MP was amazing though. But for me, my favorite action adventure game was AC2. I'm an AC fanboy, but that game in particular is still a blast to play.

Assassin's Creed II for me. Closely followed by Assassin's Creed IV and Tomb Raider.

Tomb Raider or Max Payne 3 were easily better than any of the Uncharted games.

tomb raider - reboot

Darksiders 2, Tomb Raider, or Red Dead Redemption for me, haters gonna hate, but i feel that uncharted counts as an action adventure game as much as gears of war would. Its not even open world, not really an adventure going mission to mission.
