Is there a standard you have?
I don't,personally.

I usually just go straight for the hardest setting, I have more fun on the harder settings. I go back to the normal settings later and don't even have to try to beat the game.
Usually normal with some games occasionally hard .. for example playing KillZone in normal is a waste ..
Well, let's just say I can beat Street Fighter II on the highest difficulty with just one continue and using just one button.
Yes, I'm "so hardcore!". :P
Getting my butt kicked repeatedly and then me slowly adjusting and getting better each time. Getting my butt kicked forces me to be analytical which helps a lot in my improvement.
I always play games on Easy. At the end of the day, all I want to do is have fun with a game, not get frustrated.
We're talking about games, right? Because I'd like to know what is up with you picking Max Payne in the other thread then.I like it hard sometimes.TecmoGirl

lol! Assuming your referring to the difficulty, I know how hard the Max Payne games can be -- I wasn't able to beat the first two until this year and I played those games like years ago. I prefer my games easy more often than not, but I won't necessarily give up either just because it's not easy enough. Not anymore anyways.

I haven't really bothered with high difficulty settings this gen. Can't be bothered anymore. I just want to play through it without pulling out my hair. You're right though. MP games can be very challenging.I like a good challenge, as long as it doesn't turn into an exercise in frustration.
For example, I avoid harder difficulties in some games like CoD, because I know they won't make a game harder by any fair methods, they'll only make AI super-precise, instead of smarter, while decreasing the amout of bullets you can take...
I usually go hard, because it feels more satisfying, you know? But every now and then I like some leisure and do it normally.
There's no point in playing games when you're doing it on easy.

There is no point in playing games when you aren't having fun.
Fun is subjective, some may enjoy a good challenge, while some may enjoy feeling powerful, and going through the game with ease. Who are you to say which definition is the more correct one?
Honestly, most of your posts can be summed up as "more options=bad"...
I get no satisfaction out of a game unless there is some challenge to it. I usually play on the difficulty above normal for a series I know if it's available. Otherwise I start on normal and see how it goes from there.
